September 26, 200322 yr Commercial Member Hi PMDG Team! Are you planning on implementing the RNP functions of the FMC?Would make flying into "critical" aerodromes (such as EDDF) much more realistic. Especially as soon as we have the IRU's modelled! For those of you who don't know what this is, RNP stands for 'required navigation performance'. It tells the crew, with 95% certainty, how precise the calculated position is. For example a figure of 3.0 would indicate that the calculated position is within a circle with a radius of 3 nm with the aircraft's true position being the center of this circle. Different airspaces have different requirements for area navigation. Some airports, such as Frankfurt, use RNAV transitions to guide aircraft along a downwind and then onto a final track. The downwind leg consists only of fixes and no radio aids are available thus RNAV equipment (area navigation) is required. As the error margin is very small, aircraft are required to have an accuracy of at least 3 miles, otherwise vectors have to be requested. Now, with GPS, 3 miles is no problem. The actual navigational performance of GPS is more like 0.3 miles. However, many aircraft are not GPS equipped and this is where the FMC function comes in handy. The actual and required navigational performance is displayed on the Legs page of the CDU (737 classic, not sure where it is on the NG). If the figure is below 3, you can continue on the transition, otherwise you request vectors. While this feature is not essential for most simmers, it would add a lot of realism to the folks flying online! And as you guys strive for maximum realism... ;-)Thanks,Mark Mark Foti Author of aviaworx - https://www.aviaworx.com

November 16, 200322 yr I just learned that my favorite airline, WestJet will be implementing RNP procedures at some British Columbia airports. I was lucky enough to sit through a meeting regarding this fascinating technology. It is something I wish to learn more about, and do hope to see in the sim world soon.Capherc
