MASI Flap Bug Anomalies?

Featured Replies

When I takeoff, using Flaps 10, the Flaps 10 Bug on the MASI sits at a particular airspeed. When I retract the flaps to Flaps 5, the Flaps 5 Bug sits at the same airspeed. Is this normal? Also, during approach, when I select Flaps 25, the upper red "bricks" don't appear to reflect the values on my Flap Limit decal (below the Gear Lever).http://members.ozemail.com.au/~b744er/737/Flap25Limit.jpgOperator error?Thanks.Cheers.Ian.P.S. Also in the picture, you might notice the 328' Radio Mins. This seems to be some sort of default value in my copy of PMDG's 737NG.P.P.S. Also... Would it be possible to make the Cabin Altitude Landing selector knob turn whenever you hold the mouse key down (rather than with individual clicks). I've been flying from airport to airport in the Himalayas (with some airports with altitudes greater than 8000')... and half my preflight/approach preparation time is spent dialling in the correct Takeoff/Landing altitude :-)

Ian-good eyes! The issue here is with the placard speeds bitmap - that will have to be switcheable depending on the aircraft type. So far, it's showing the -700 values.Also- are you SURE you're already AT flaps 25? It seems you're at flaps 15 going for 25 (thus showing NEXT flap speed and the reference for it).The radio mins is not "necessarily" a bug, as the value must be checked and set by the captain before any flight, right? ;-) - I agree with you though, it's a default set by FS (and FSUIPC) AFTER I perform the initialization of the EFIS values, thus the issue.I've already sent Rob an email about the Cabin Altitude Landing selector knob - he'll look into it.Thanks,

"Also- are you SURE you're already AT flaps 25? It seems you're at flaps 15 going for 25 (thus showing NEXT flap speed and the reference for it)."Hi, Lefteris. What I'm getting in SU1.1, FS2002, -700, 2D cockpit with airstairs, Qantas add-on, is the green bug matching the flap lever setting and the red bricks moving immediately to the speed for that lever setting (as per the decal)... at least for the first few flap settings. However, things start to go wonky from then on. At Flaps 30, for example, I have 165kts instead of 175.Are you saying that (on the real aircraft) the red bricks shouldn't reflect the current flap lever position, but rather the current flap position? (Even so, I've tried this with the flaps in position for several minutes with the same results). Thanks for the feedback.Cheers.Ian.(Edit: At Flaps 15, I have 195 instead of 200. At Flaps 25, I have 170 instead of 190. At Flaps 30, I have 165 instead of 175. At Flaps 40, I have 155, instead of ??? I'll try it with the default aircraft to see if that makes a difference).

Lefteris, the green flap speed bug shows the manoeuvre speed for the current flap setting, so Ian is indeed at flaps 25.Regarding the speed tape on the real aircraft during approach:1. When flaps are not up, the bottom of the amber bar should indicate the flap limit placard speed for the next flap setting, based on a normal landing flap sequence of 1, 5, 15, 30. The bar is removed when the FMC selected landing flap is reached (this is simplifed; the moment when the bar disappears is slightly different on different aircraft).2. The bottom of the red/black bricks should indicate the lowest of the following limiting speeds: Vmo, Mmo, landing gear placard speed, current flap placard speed. The above "normal landing flap sequence" is from an easyJet ops manual. I wouldn't be surprised if some airlines have different display logic.BTW Ian, good call on the cabin landing alt selector!

"I'll try it with the default aircraft to see if that makes a difference)."No difference.Isn't anyone else getting this effect?I realize that you're not supposed to use your flaps to slow down on the NG, but having the red bricks drop so low is preventing me from dropping the flaps earlier than I want to (or else I have to make a Tech Log entry for exceeding the flaps speed limit).By the way, does the real NG trigger an overspeed warning when you go into the red area with the flaps extended... or is the Overspeed warning only generated when you exceed Vmo/Mmo (flaps up)?Thanks.Cheers.Ian.

"1. When flaps are not up, the bottom of the amber bar should indicate the flap limit placard speed for the next flap setting, based on a normal landing flap sequence of 1, 5, 15, 30."Verrry interesting. Excellent info, Neil :-)Thanks.Cheers.Ian.

Yep, what a great piece of kit the real thing is! :-cool

>having the red bricks drop so low is>preventing me from dropping the flaps earlier than I want toForgive me if I've misunderstood you, but you should wait until reaching the green manoeuvring speed bug for the current flap setting before lowering the next. You'll always be below the red bricks then.As for the overspeed warning, I'm not sure about that.

"but you should wait until reaching the green manoeuvring speed bug for the current flap setting before lowering the next. You'll always be below the red bricks then."Ahh... bad habits I've picked up from other sims where the speeds are not as critical ;-) I haven't figured out how to set winds in PMDG's FMC for descent, so I'm not always flying the correct profile... and my pax get upset when I use the spoilers and, in desperate cases, the gear, to slow down ;-)Thanks, Neil.Cheers.Ian.
