FMC Gives Me Too Slow Climb - Almost Stalls

Featured Replies

I have read the genious FMC tutorial by Timothy Metzinger, but maybe I have missed an important point.I think I enter everything correctly in the FMC before take-off. But after take-off, the FMC limits the speed to below 180 KIAS, and then slows down the aircraft to about 130 KIAS. At the same time, the aircraft climbs too slowly, at about 100 ft. pr. minute, making ATC yell at me. The aircraft is close to stall and crash.I would like to climb at about 2500 ft. pr. minute at 250 KIAS. How do I make FMC give me a proper climb? Thanks in advance for any help.Nico

The only reason the FMC would do this is if it was following the flaps retraction schedule.Check your Aircraft load editor, make sure your aircraft isnt loaded too heavy.Make sure you have your gear up aswell ;)Basically, the FMC works with the MCP to maintain the correct and selected speed by using Pitch and the Vertical speed limit. When lining up on the runway, select AT and FD active. In the FMC select TO and CLB from the N1 menu.Advance the throttles slightly, let the engines stabilise and then activate the TO/GO by clicking on the screw on the top left of the MCP(This is important). The throttles will advance to the Thrust rating computed by the FMC.After takeoff, enable LNAV and VNAV on the MCP(not neccassirly activating the AP), just the FD command modes. The aircraft should climb like a rocket, its a powerful little bird ;)So much so that I use CLB 2 until passing 10,000ft when increasing the speed from 250 to my climb speed(selected on the FMC->CLB).Enjoy!JohnP 2.53 GHZ512 RAMWINXPGFORCE 4 128MB Ti4600http://homepage.eircom.net/~eamonnmca/images/logo_ba.JPGwww.bavirtual.co.uk Senior Captain Simflight.com Staff Reviewerhttp://vatsim.pilotmedia.fi/statusindicato...tor=OD1&a=a.jpg

"The aircraft should climb like a rocket, its a powerful little bird" Funny you say that, there was a discussion not long ago with a NG pilot who said he always used a reduced takeoff. Saves on engine life big time and full thrust is rarely needed on the NG..[h4]Best Wishes,Randy J. Smithhttp://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-5/196432/winglets_lg.jpg

No reason why you shouldnt I suppose, provided the runway is long enough-it can only be a good thing.I find myself using normal TO and CLB2 until my climb rates start to reduce-otherwise, I'm climbing at 5000-6000FT/MIN.I know this happens in real life quite often but I like my PAX to be comfortable ;)JohnP 2.53 GHZ512 RAMWINXPGFORCE 4 128MB Ti4600http://homepage.eircom.net/~eamonnmca/images/logo_ba.JPGwww.bavirtual.co.uk Senior Captain Simflight.com Staff Reviewerhttp://vatsim.pilotmedia.fi/statusindicato...tor=OD1&a=a.jpg

Thanks for drawing my attention to these details. I will remember them next time.Kind regards,Nico
