October 10, 200322 yr I was a little bored on a long sector from Bali to Darwin (Australia) so I decided to check my auto-ignition circuits. I got some very strange results...When I shut down my right engine in cruise, my N1/N2 indications dropped to zero (i.e. no windmilling). Because of this, I couldn't check a particular part of my auto-ignition circuits... Namely... With my Start Switch in OFF, and my fuel cutoff levers selected to IDLE, if my N2 is more than 5% but less than idle, the (real 737NG) ignitors should cut in and my engine should start again (if my windmilling engine is spinning fast enough).I had to use FLT Start to start my engine. After the engine had started, I noticed that my Start switch moved back to OFF automatically. I don't think this is correct (the latching circuit is only on GND start). As the engines were not windmilling and my pnuematic Isolation valve was closed (it was in AUTO), I'm left wondering how my engine started at all :-hmmmCheers.Ian.
October 10, 200322 yr I had the same question about windmilling, why it wasn't included.I don't know about the start switch moving back to OFF automatically.Best,Bruno Francescoli.
October 10, 200322 yr Oh I know, awful isn't it?! How do you sleep at night? I'm up at all hours pondering that one.Sorry couldn't resist! I'm all for realism, but sometimes i just find it funny how seriously some people take this hobby (or whatever you wanna call it). And i thought i was a fanatic! I couldn't even tell you the top speed of the NG let alone what should happen to the ignition switch in an in-flight restart! What ever turns you on!Cheers Mark
October 10, 200322 yr Commercial Member Well Mark, luckily not everyone thinks the way you do and of course not everyone strives for the same level of realism (some are happy flying the default 737 and some prefer PS1.3) but think of this:If the developers weren't interested in making this as realistic as possible, why bother with a moving start switch selector in the first place? (just a tiny example)RegardsMark Mark Foti Author of aviaworx - https://www.aviaworx.com
October 11, 200322 yr "Oh I know, awful isn't it?! How do you sleep at night? I'm up at all hours pondering that one."Perhaps, Mark, your job or the lives of the people who fly on the aircraft you work on don't depend on these things? In our airline, we treat safety seriously.... Not all of us lose sleep over these matters, but we do lose sleep if we don't get it right first time.I hope you don't have to fly an airline sometime in the future where the pilots and engineers think differently from us ;-)Regards.Ian.P.S. (Edit) Also, talking about such things helps commit things to memory. It's been proven in studies that reading about something is is the least efficient way of remembering something... The best way is to teach others about how something works.

October 11, 200322 yr Ian, my dear fellow, this, and other things, are thge reason why I keep PS1 in my HD. Even registered WideFs and FSUIPC so that one day I'll try Visual744 again....When we are acostumed to perfection, it's a pain to live without it....Anyway, I think PMDG already pushed the bar to the higher possible limit within MSFS's limitations, bringing us all avery rewarding simulation. I'd say I do not own/use fs9, but rather PMDG's 737NG running on fs9.... :-)
October 11, 200322 yr I thought i might rattle a few cages!I was only having a bit of fun. In fact i think it's amazing that PMDG go into this much detail for the price they charge to be honest. And i'm very greatful for all the realism in this product even if i'm not aware of it! I was just having one of those reality check moments. i.e: none of us are actually training on the NG with this software so what kind of life do we have if we know what the start switch should do in a certain circumstance and then complain about it! He's perfectly within his right's as a customer to do so, but i just can't help feeling that there are more important things in life to worry about. I don't think we should be surprised if people call us obsessed geeks. My house mates are always coming in my room and saying "flying AGAIN Mark? Where are you flying to today?"No intent to bash or offend here, just try looking away from the screen once in a while, it'll do our eyes, brains and hearts some good! Or you could just ignore me and carry on if you like, and i'll shut up now.Cheers, Mark
October 11, 200322 yr Call me a fantast, call me a geek, whatever. I don`t care! I`m becoming immune :) I want it down to the numbers, but that does not say I`m flying by the numbers all the time, I really like "free flight". This product is for everyone. Wanna fly easy? Its possible.Wanna fly like the real-world? Possible too! No complaints from me ;)
