October 27, 200322 yr Some time back I posted a problem I was having with PMDG 737 anytime I installed a livery. The problem was that I couldn't retract my gear when airborne. It only happened if I installed a livery. Some solutions were offered but no answers. This was frustrating because I couldn't fly any liveries.I have now narrowed the problem and need some help. It appears it has nothing to do with adding the liveries per se but only IF I access the aircraft cfg file. Here are some of the things I noticed.- When I first open the aircraft cfg file for, let's say the 737-600 variant, it asks me if I wish to convert the file from ANSI windows Text. I say yes. If I then save it as a wordperfect document rather than recoverting to ANSI text AND then start FS9, FS9 will freeze (I notice CPU usage 100% when I ctrl-alt-delete). As long as I resave it as ANSI WIndows text then it is ok and I can start FS9. HOWEVER, THAT is the very problem which causes (for some reason) the gear to no longer retract. As long as I DON'T ACCESS the aircraft cfg file ALL IS OK. The moment I access this file in the manner above is where the problem ensues so when I take up the plane the gear will not retract. Can anyone advise me what is going on here and why merely accessing the aircraft cfg file for whatever variant in the fashion above is causing the problem?
October 27, 200322 yr Hi (please sign your posts in the future)I was wondering what program you are using to open the file? And why is this program asking you to save the file either in in ANSI or as word perfect file? Why don't you just open the file using the windows editor (notepad)? As far as I know *.cfg files are like *.txt files. Just assign the *.cfg ending to the editor...For me it sounds like the program you are using is adding some "hidden" inforation in the resaved *.cfg file and FS9 is not going to accept thet. What you could do as well is to open the file with that program and save it again without changing anything. And than compare the exact file size. If the size is different you know that the program is adding something even if you make no changes...Hope that helps, and please write back if it worked or notCheers :-beerchugMartin
October 27, 200322 yr Use WordPad or NotePad to open and add the additional information to the Aircraft.cfg file. Anyother program will produce unexpected results. http://www.precision...GX_Dev_Team.jpg PMDG Graphic Designer
October 27, 200322 yr Thankyou for your responses. The problem has been SOLVED. FINALLY. Indeed all I had to do was change the property of the file to notepad instead of WordPerfect (if I didn't even though I opened with notepad and saved with it, it would still save as Word document). Once I did that all was ok. I noticed that the WordPerfect aircraft config file was considerably bigger than the notepad file and added several sections. Where these would come from is anyones guess. However, once I changed the property of the aircraft file to notepad and then installed the liveries and saved as notepad document - gear went up. All I can say is that I was one of the first to buy this plane and I could never enjoy it because of this problem. Instead of asking for my money back I persisted and now the payoff! Thanks for confirming my inclinations.Len (name is Leonard but I call myself Len or sometimes Lenny)
