November 3, 200322 yr Hi folks! How can i set MCP climb rate (if fasible) to use in TOGA takeoffs?Often i risk stall as the plane seems to climb too quickly 3-4000 fpm to reach initial set altitude. Thanks in advance for any help.Luigi ;-)
November 3, 200322 yr You will never use LVL CH or VNAV until you have retracted your flaps (1000 AGL +) although it's possible to engage a pitch mode at 400 AGL. Here is a good way, set flaps up on schedule, speed up to 250 knots set and set the MCP alt to your crz alt and engage V/S at a nice rate, say 1500-2000 FPM, once climbing nicely engage VNAV or LVL CH, that should help smooth the transition out. November 3, 200322 yr Hi Luigi,That rate of climb seems OK to me. If you're close to stalling, is it because your MCP speed is set too low? Set it to the FMC calculated V2 before hitting TOGA.If you want reduced climb rates immediately after takeoff, just derate the takeoff thrust on the FMC N1 page.
November 4, 200322 yr Hey Randy,I've never had any problem using LVL CHG during initial climb out. Sometimes it's the only way I can deal with handoffs on VATSIM, etc (wish I had a copilot sometime...my wife just won't take that job though ;) ). Anyways, once established at VNAV +20 and trimmed, I engage LVL CHG, reset MCP to 250, and set flaps 1 (flaps up on schedule).VNAV doesn't seem to behave correctly if engaged before flaps up, but, again, I've not had any problems with level change.Jeff
