November 7, 200322 yr Have two questions. 1) How do I track a VOR? Have gone through Tim's guide and feel comfortable about flying the routes and do so frequently. But, I tried to follow a go around procedure the other day which included flying to a VOR, and I could not figure out how to do it other than to pause and program it into the FMS. 2) Has anyone tried flying the CIVET4 arrival to LAX? If you program the step descent as per the arrival, you will get a VNAV disconnect. I can manually fly it by extending speed brakes and so forth, but I can not figure out how to get it to descend without disconnecting. I would think that the real plane wouldn't do this on a standard arrival to such a busy airport. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks. Wyatt Watkins SWA1058 (simulated southwest)
November 7, 200322 yr Wyatt,1) Tune the Vor frequency into NAV1, select your desired course on the course selector either to or from the station. (If you are not on the radial, go for a max intercept heading of say 45 degrees) then push the NAV/LOC button. You should then see the NAV/LOC light illuminate (arm) on the PFD, then upon capturing the radial, NAV/LOC should go green and "Voila!"2)Sorry, Can't help!:)
November 7, 200322 yr Just a small addon to the first question. When you use the VOR/LOC button to capture and track a radial the system thinks that you are going to land, i.e. track a localiser. This means that the FMC will not allow you to go to the CLB and CRZ pages, and VNAV won /Tord Hoppe, Sweden
