November 12, 200322 yr Hi, I want some help on landing manually. Normally I go in and use autopilot. I never do autoland, but usually do APP mode and flare and all that good stuff by myself. Yet I want to fly the plane on my own, to make it feel like i am doing something on my own, not automated. Here is what I understand. 180 speed, flaps 5 on LOC intercept. When the G/S becomes active I slow to the flap 15 speed (A/T) and put the flaps at 15. One dot above the G/S centered I lower gear. At 1000 feet, I slow to flap 30 or 40 speed and put the flaps to what I choose. At what point do I turn off autopilot? I have heard at middle marker, but in every flight in FS9, I have yet to hear or see any of the markers. Anyway, when i do disengage, the plane will veer sharp left or right. Now I have to struggle to line it back up. THat is where i run into trouble. I thought I had it configured properly and that it should be pretty easy to line back up. Yet i find it nearly impossible. Do i use rudder or stick? the plane either goes too high or too low and I get the awful "glideslope" warning. I know this is probably not that easy, but i want to know the proper technique so I can practice. Is there a way to have the 737 in a position already lined up so I can keep practicing like the cessna? I feel like in the real world, these pilots fly the approach themselves. Ive seen it in cockpit videos. I just cant get it right! What can I be doing wrong and how can I fix it? And how can I see or hear the markers? Any advice would be appreciated! Are there any tutorials? I can land the props and the smaller jets fine. Its the 737 I have trouble with.....probably because it is realistic and shouldnt be easy!ThanksBrad Zimmer
November 12, 200322 yr I'm no expert, as I rarely follow a strict protocol for procedure. I fly only in 2002 right now, so maybe FS9 has some issues with the veering off course problem in the PMDG. In 2002 I've never had any problems with a manual land, however, I only use the ILS as a visual guide as some pilots will do, so I don't engage the APP or LOC. I usually disconnect the A/T about 15nm out and slow down to set flaps 5. Then I try and disconnect the AP and FD completely when the GS comes alive. Otherwise, if I'm too far off course from the LOC I simply disconnect AP and FD all together and fly the whole approach manually. It just depends on my course I enter in manually. To make the manual landing easier I adjust my approach into the active runway by using an intersection that lines me up with the runway. For example, if I fly to KLAS without using any weather, I program the FMC to fly direct to FLICR then CONDY then RW25R. This is something I do when practicing the manual approach just get used to it.Also, I'm just using a MS SideWinder (no rudder pedals). I find that a small adjustment doesn't need any rudder input, however, you must follow the slip indicator for turns and major adjustments. About the marker, I'm not sure if you can turn on the marker sounds yet or if SU2 will change that. I do believe that the PFD shows the circled blue M when over that marker. I could be wrong, for I don't use markers anymore.Chris - Chris Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX | Intel Core i9 13900KF | Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4090 24 GB | 64GB DDR5 SDRAM | Corsair H100i Elite 240mm Liquid Cooling | 1TB & 2TB Samsung Gen 4 SSD | 1000 Watt Gold PSU | Windows 11 Pro | Thrustmaster Boeing Yoke | Thrustmaster TCA Captain X Airbus | Asus ROG 38" 4k IPS Monitor (PG38UQ) Asus Maximus VII Hero motherboard | Intel i7 4790k CPU | MSI GTX 970 4 GB video card | Corsair DDR3 2133 32GB SDRAM | Corsair H50 water cooler | Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD (2) | EVGA 1000 watt PSU - Retired
