Engine sound level

Featured Replies

Hi,I'm back with this sound level problem I already mentionned. The problem is that in cruise or climb phase (anywhere with throttle up), the engine sound is too loud even with the FS engine sound setting set to 1% (the engine sound slider). This is not the same with the sounds for other built in aircraft.I have checked that the FS setting was actually changing something, and it is. When put to 100%, the engine sound is much louder, and it's definitly softer at 1%, but still too loud in my opinion.Would there be any way to resample the sound to a half or third or its current volume, so that it would be more in line with all the other engine sounds?Eric L.

Eric L.,something is obviously amiss. Correct me if I'm wrong, Captains, but even at full power, the engines do not seem to be overpowering the other sounds heard in the cockpit. I'm not at the sim right now to check but don't think the sound level for the engines is a problem. We'll need to do a bit of detective work, but I'm kinda lost as to how to proceed. Anyone have any suggestions?

You can still hear ATC, but it's just difficult for some of the voices (especially the female voice).>not at the sim right now to check but don't think the sound>level for the engines is a problem. Put the loudspeakers Go to Settings->Sounds and put the top slider (engines) to the Max. Click OK and listen to the sound level (compare engine and ATC levels). Now, go back to the settings->sounds and put the engine slider to 1. Listen again. With the Cessna, there is a huge difference in engine sound level between 1 and 100%. With the PMDG737, the difference is much much less.I usually set the slider to about 5% and this is OK on ground at idle. But at (near) full power, some ATC voices are barely understandable. On a side note, I also noticed a large increase in volume when you go from cockpit to spot plane. I know the engines will do much more noise when you're outside, but in the sim, I'm not sure this is what we want.My sound hardware is the integrated Soundstorm system on the A7N8X Deluxe (nForce2)Eric L.

Eric, don't take this as criticism but, your comparing the noise level of a pistion engined Cessna 172 to that of a jet engined Boeing 737? Well, naturally since we're striving for realism, the sounds you hear in the cockpit are sounds that you would naturally hear, at the levels you would hear them. The ATC voice level is something we have no control over.

The ATC>voice level is something we have no control over. What I say is just that there is slider to control the volume of the engines sound in Flight Simulator. This slider goes from 0 to 100%. With stock planes, the slider really controls the engines sound from nearly unaudible at 1% to really loud (without changing the volumes of the other sounds, who have their own sliders). With the PMDG sound, there is nearly no change between 1 and 100%.Eric L.

Hi,I was wondering why the sound on the ground was OK, but was much too loud when airborne. Well, I found it. It's not the engine sound, it's the environment sound and particularly the wind that, alone, was nearly covering the engines. At first, I did not make the distinction. I have now reduced the environment sound slider to 15, and it's much better.Eric L.
