Quick question about the main displays.

Featured Replies

I noticed after looking on airliners net that there seems to be two versions of the main displays. One is the one I have in the PMDG and the other being a kind of purple color on the right/left side of the main display, plus is has a "chevron" instead of the vertical and horizontal pink line for a FD. I was just wondering what the difference is...manufacturer or something else??

Basically the other display is for carriers like Southwest that don't want the newer style display like is currently modeled. They use the older display to maintain cockpit rating compatability with all of there 737 fleet. The main difference is the looks; the old style display is used to mimmick the instrumentation seen in the -200ish series.

Fred,You're right about the second style of display (reference SWA PFD's), but what he's referring to is the actual color of the "boxes" that contain the altimeter and speed tapes, as well as the autopilot information boxes above the artificial horizon on the PFD. On the 777 they're a dark purple, and on some 737NG's it seems it's that dark purple color again. However, depending on the picture it can be a very light grey, and sometimes a very dark grey. I'm not sure if dark purple is an option, but if you're paying millions for this bird, I guess you can have pink if you'd like. In the PMDG bird, you can alter the colors of these boxes in the PMDG Menu, and I have done so to my liking. Just make those boxes a darker grey, and it'll look better. This was one of my major gripes about PMDG until I realized you can actually change it :)The chevron that you're referring to is a different type of flight director. The crosshair one that is default is the one you're used to, but the chevron is the other method, it's commonly seen on (you guessed it.. the 777), but also on some NG's. There is an option in the PMDG menu to chose a single cue FD, or the crosshair. I think (haven't checked, so might be wrong here) that the single cue will give you the chevron you so desire.Hope this helps,Andy CleeremansP.S. Bought this bird today 11/21, and I LOVE IT! http://www.airliners.net/open.file/268806/L

Hello Andy, You're pretty right on there. And the cue is the option for what he was asking in the menu. The colors you see on this NG are matching to what's on the real NG's displays. Pictures do not always convey the correct color shades. As a side note, the waypoints and ARPT data on the ND now (SU2 patch) matches the sky blue color on the engine display ;). Thanks a lot guy's. I think you may be right about the color of the displays, it could be the lighting in the photos.Incidentally, is the weather radar and traffic systems going to be implemented as in the NG. I look at some of the photos and underneath the ARPT in the display it says WX+T, so you have all the imformation of your course traffic and weather right there in one display...that would be sweet. :)Mikkel

Andy,Darn, your right. Oh well :D
