November 23, 200322 yr Hello,I am pleased with my purchase of the 737NG. I have been noticing the winds, as indicated on the EADI display, disagree with the FS9 winds by 20 degrees. This is consistent with the local magnetic variation (20 East), which leads me to believe the EADI is displaying True Wind. Is this supposed to be so? If it's a bug, is it going to be fixed with SU2?BTW, not sure of the correct name for the outboard screen on the 737NG, but in 767PIC it's called the "EADI".Kenny Rogers
November 23, 200322 yr Yes, the wind vector should be magnetic, not true. On the 737NG/777/747/764, the EADI is called the PFD (primary flight display), the EHSI is called the ND (navigation display) but since they are interchangeable, the physically located outboard display is called "Outer DU" and the one next to it the "Inner DU", the engine displays (no EICAS in this dinosaur) are called "Upper/Lower DU".
November 23, 200322 yr Does anybody know if this will be one of the many improvements in SU2?Kenny Rogers
November 23, 200322 yr >Does anybody know if this will be one of the many>improvements in SU2?>>Kenny RogersAs I understand it, this is exactly right as stated earlier in this thread.
November 23, 200322 yr Thank-you both for your replies. I will try to clear this up:There is a 20-degree discrepancy between the wind vector shown on the ND (Navigation Display), and the FS9 wind (shown by typing Shift-Z). I believe the ND is showing me True Wind, not Magnetic Wind. "Iz" suggested that the wind vector should be magnetic, not true. I just need to know why there is this difference. Is it showing True Wind (which is not the correct format)? Is anybody else seeing a difference between the two wind indications? Thanks,Kenny Rogers

November 24, 200322 yr First, I am pretty sure the wind you see with Shift-Z in FS or set in the Weather settings is true, not magnetic. If I set a true wind of 360/50 at KBOS, the ND is showing 016/50 and a wind vector coming 16 degrees from the right while I fly 360 magnetic. That all sounds fine to me. The wind is 360 true or 016 magnetic. The magnetic variation near KBOS is 16W.EDIT: I should point out I am flying SU2 beta.Lee Hetherington (KBED)
November 25, 200322 yr Thank you very much, I believe you are correct. (I had the variation backwards in my head :-) )Kenny Rogers
November 25, 200322 yr Hmm, on my ND both wind directions have the same value but the wind speed which is indicated by pressing SHIFT+Z is half the value of that showing on the ND. Which one is correct I wonder!?David P.
November 26, 200322 yr This is what I am experiencing. Note the MAGNETIC WIND at the top of the image. Down below, the ND is SUBTRACTING the local variation (Approx. 20 degrees East) for some unknown reason. Kenny Rogers
