December 13, 200322 yr Hi,This is probably already found by someone before however I could not find any posts about it.In the upper left corner of the PMDG-737 ND-display there is a display of wind direction and wind speed. Like 300/73 (equal wind from 300 degrees at 73 knots). The same information can also be found in the FMC.The wind direction value does not correspond to the value that is displayed by FS9 when you hit shift-Z. There is usually a small difference between this value. I just guess it has to do with true and magnetic winddirection???!Is this an issue to take care of or is it just to be ignored?RegardsAnders Persson
December 13, 200322 yr I have also noticed this wind issue. The difference between the FS9 (Shift-Z) wind and the FD wind is consistent with the local magnetic variation. I have tested this in various places around the globe. I am not sure if it is a "Microsoft FS9" issue or a "PMDG" issue. I emailed PMDG a screenshot, and they are aware of the problem. I would not be surprised if the upcoming SU2 resolves this. Now if you will excuse me, I have to go and check my email...Kenny Rogers:)
December 13, 200322 yr Commercial Member Who said it's a "problem"?The ND is displaying Magnetic information. Shift-Z displays true info.Cheers, Lefteris Kalamaras - Founder www.flightsimlabs.com
December 13, 200322 yr Lefteris,There is a problem. I did not say that is was necessarily PMDG's problem. When you type Shift-Z, you will notice that Microsoft labels the wind as "magnetic". However, PMDG is supposedly also displaying magnetic wind on their ND display. These wind directions are different, and therefore cannot both be right. As I mentioned, the difference is consistent with the local magnetic variation. It could very well be that "Anders" and I have a bad installation of this program. It could be our problem. I am hopeful that this will go away with SU-2.Kenny Rogers
December 13, 200322 yr this might be a little off topic but does anyone knows if FS models the fact that the magnetic north moves over time?regards,Jan van Hecke
December 13, 200322 yr That's an interesting question. I am guessing that Microsoft updates their variation data with each new version of Flight Simulator. The variation for the airport where I work has changed by only 1 degree over the last ten years.Kenny Rogers
December 13, 200322 yr Commercial Member Kenny-you're correct, and I was wrong. We caught it, and it's fixed for SU2. The ND is showing correct magnetic winds now, and the FMC is showing correct TRUE winds now.Cheers, Lefteris Kalamaras - Founder www.flightsimlabs.com
December 14, 200322 yr Hi all,Thanks all for your comments.Looking forward to SU2. Just saw that I've got a mail about right now! :)//Anders
