March 13, 200422 yr Hi,Have a simple question about how the crew use their radio IRL, do they have some kind of a "push-to-talk" button or how do they activate the mic when they are about to say something on the channel?Cheers,

March 13, 200422 yr Tim I just installed FPI's ATOC. It uses the + <- or-> to use channel 1 or 2. I just may try using the two buttons on the C & H yoke. With FPI's software you really dont need the kneepad, it's availible with their software. Just a thought, I'll see how it feels. The ATOC setup is as simple as it gets, installed with no problems,1 shot. Nothing like voice, and they make it easy. Too bad they are a little small compared to Vatsim.Regards
March 13, 200422 yr Author Hi Timothy,Thanks for that info, been thinking about it and also have a cockpit video but haven't been able to see what they actually do when they talk to the ATC.Also would like to direct a BIG thanks to you for your efforts making your great tutorials for us - THANKS!!All the best,
March 14, 200422 yr "do they have some kind of a "push-to-talk" button or how do they activate the mic when they are about to say something on the channel?"First the pilot has to select which comms system he/she wants to use....http://members.ozemail.com.au/~b744er/737N...rrideSwitch.jpgIn the top corners of this pic, you will see panels with lots of rectangular black buttons and lots of clear circular buttons. These are the audio selector panels. The black pusbutton switches select which system you want to transmit on...i.e. VHF-1, VHF-2, VHF-3, HF-1, HF-2, CABin Interphone, FLighT Interphone, Passenger Address. The circular push/rotating buttons are for selecting receiver audio and adjusting volume.Next the pilot has to use a Push To Talk switch. There may be several ways of doing this: Handmic PTTControl column PTTToggle switch on audio selector panel (see switch marked "R/T and I/C"). The pilots use the R/T switch selection to talk to ATC.Some aircraft may also have pushbuttons on the glareshield.Of course, you have to remember to dial in the correct frequency ;-)Hope this helps.Cheers.Ian.
