May 11, 200422 yr OK, I got extremely bored fly CAT III autolands. I know how to fly non-precision approachs, but between the PMDG planes, and FS9, I'm a little lost. Here's what I did-I created a flight plan to Hays Regional in Minnesota or somewhere. When ATC cleared me for an ILS approach to 34, I instead selected the VOR DME with the HYS transition. A VOR 34 transition was listed in the approaches on the FMC, so I selected it, and got a discontinuity. Firstly, If my route ends some fifty miles before that, and then I select the approach, what would be the logical way to connect the two? There is no airway going through that intersection/VOR. Why doesn't the FMC automatically connect the discontinuity? Should I just put HYS under "Then" in the route page? Also, what exactly am I accomplishing my entering this approach into the FMC? The real approach is to fly out on the 152, then do a procedure turn at 3800, then fly the 332 down to 3100 at DME 4, then land. How much of this will the autopilot do if it is set up correctly? I have seen a few tutorials on flying ILS approaches, but none for this plane on other approaches.Anybody feel like do a non-precision approach tutorial for this plane? I'm sure I'm not the only one who could use it.
May 11, 200422 yr Hi Christian.Firstly I asume that you have charts for the dest airport, you'll find info there. Maybe you could tell which airport(icao code etc) you are arriving at? Then it will be easier to tell what to do here..On general basis you can find info on non-precision approaches in Timothy Metzinger's tutorial on page 64. You can also find some references in the manual page 10 - 10. Also visit this page http://www.fmcguide.com/support.html, download the documents "737 profiles" and "rnav 26". They have a lot of info regarding different approaches, also non-precision. http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/checkcapt.jpg
May 11, 200422 yr Thanks. The airport was KHYS. I had a FS Navigator route that went to the airport, but then I added the approach in the FMC, and got the discontinuity. I'm just not sure how to "insert" and approach correctly.
May 11, 200422 yr Selecting a star or an approach will be discontinuity-less *only if* the start of star is already the final wpt in the flight plan, same logic for approaches - that is is the starting point of the appraoch is the last wpt in the flight plan. If yes, merge will be seamless... If no -> discontinuity. This is as per real life, so even if the FMC *could* it *doesn't* :-)If you get a disco, you can just delete it from legs page using DEL. If you're unable to do that (disco gets reinserted) it means you're asking for a 180 degrees course reversal OR you have 2 wpts that are identical and follow each other.anthonyAnthony MertonPrecision Manuals Developmenthttp://www.precisionmanuals.com
