PMDG + Nick's Smoke effect

Featured Replies

Any of the panel gurus out there have a working config file showing Nick's particle gen smoke effects added to the NG so it doesn't mess up the lights? Thanks!

Anyone, anyone, Bueller, anyone? ;)

Is that the part of a movie????(ferris Bueller's day off.) :(

Yes, exactly.Ok, well I toyed with it, and came up with a compromise found here. Summary:Nick Needham wrote a great set of smoke effects for engines that use the particle emmitters that FS has. The problem is that the particles are tied to lights, and the PMDG uses a number of lights. To have separate smoke for each engine, 4 lights are needed, and there are 10 total. The issues is that when the smoke is enabled (above a certain RPM), Nick's gauge turns lights on/off which may have an undesired effect on the "looks" of the plane. But it does work. I tweaked things a little.What I ended up doing at this point is this: modify the gauge so that it uses cabin light, which isn't used in the PMDG (for now, and from what I can tell). Second, tie the smoke effect to engine 1, and only use that one light. This only works with FS9 as I don't believe FS8 has a cabin light circuit simulated.Here're my modifs (use at your own risk and make backups!) for the -700:In aircraft.cfg, [LIGHTS]//Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing light.0 = 2, -106.828, 0.090, 5.989, fx_strobe_pmdg , //Aft Strobelight.2 = 1, -42.352, 0.000, 8.584, fx_beaconh_pmdg , //Top Beaconlight.3 = 1, -50.473, 0.000, -5.873, fx_beaconh_pmdg , //Bottom Beaconlight.4 = 3, -66.685, -56.370, 1.940, fx_navred_pmdg , //Left Nav Light redlight.5 = 2, -66.202, -55.586, 1.940, fx_strobe_pmdg , //Left Strobelight.6 = 3, -66.685, 56.370, 1.940, fx_navgre_pmdg , //Right Nav Light greenlight.7 = 2, -66.202, 55.553, 1.940, fx_strobe_pmdg , //Right Strobelight.8 = 3, -72.338, -56.737, 1.586, fx_navwhi_pmdg , //Left Position Lightlight.9 = 3, -72.338, 56.691, 1.586, fx_navwhi_pmdg , //Right Position Lightlight.10 = 3, -106.828, -0.090, 5.989, fx_navwhi_pmdg , //Aft Position Lightlight.11 = 5, -33.500, 11.750, -2.000, fx_pmdgland, // Landing Light Illumination Engine Rightlight.12 = 5, -33.500, -11.750, -2.000, fx_pmdgland, // Landing Light Illunination Engine Leftlight.13 = 5, -18.000, 0.000, -4.000, fx_pmdgland, // Landing Light Illumination Nose Gear// 9 = recognition 10 = cabin, ties both engine smoke to cabin light// note - the engine positions can be derived from the engine //section above, just place behind the enginelight.14= 10, -51.500, -17.500, -5.300, fx_nicksmoke737 //Engine 1 thrust smokelight.15 = 10, -51.500, 17.500, -5.300, fx_nicksmoke737 //Engine 2 thrust smokeModify the xml gauge file located in the Gaugesnn-gauges folder in your main FS9 directory, NickSmokeFXControl.XML- This freeware gauge controls the Jet Engine Smoke Effects, defined in the LIGHTS section of the aircraft.cfg (number 6,7,8 and 9). Can I ask you to post a screen shot of the smoke effect? I would like to see what the visuals are before I start modifying the files.Thanks :-waveBoazEKCH

I meant to post screenies yesterday - and never got around to it - I will attempt to do so ASAP.
