My 737 keeps on nose diving into the ground!

Featured Replies

Hi All!I got the PMDG 737-700/600 (boxed version). I went through all the manuals and followed the tutorial which is very good by the way. However, after take off the plane has a tendency to disconnect "VNAV" and to go into a steep nose dive for the ground. It happens at any randon time and there is now error msg in the FMC.I did my last flight with LNAV on and controlled the plane with the MCP (so no VNAV mode engaged) But even then...sometimes the "ALT HOLD" disconnects and the plane dives for the ground. Has anybody else had a similar experience? Everything in the FMC seems to be corect. There are no warning messages (apart from "overspeed" of course as it goes pretty much 90degrees nose down) I am clueless Thanks Stefan

Hello Stefan, one of the few who acually followed the rules and posted their name! **GOLD STAR** hehe. Well let me see here, hummm sounds like you are TOUCHING THE CONTROLS with the A/P engaged. If you want the AFDS to be in cotrol do NOT touch the controls otherwise your touching will cause reversion to CWS modes to either pitch or roll depending on which direction you applied pressure on the control column. Look at the PFD (pilot's flight Display) and see if it shows a yellow CWS P on the FMA, this will tell you what mode you are in. CWS P & CWS R means CONTROL WHEEL STEERING. It is similar to the Airbus sidestick (although very basic compared to the airbus). One example is - if you set 12 degrees nose up and let go of your controls the pitch will STAY there until you again move the controls. I suggest a through reading on the subject in the AOMS.. Thanks for your quick answer. I will give it another try and make sure that I will not touch the Yoke. Although I have to say that I have a habit of lying a hand on it...so I might have moved it a bit.I hope that will sort it. I was worried this plane was telling me: Loose some weight mate, or move to the rear seats :-)Stefan

Hehe. No but this is exactly what happens on the real NG (although more than a casual touch to activate it but this is fs). So anytime you do take the controls you are in essence saying to the AFDS "I have the aircraft". Some habits are hard to unlearn but now you know what is really going on (so no more nose dives ;-)). If it happens again and you do not want to use CWS simply look at the FMA and MCP and re-engage a pitch mode (VNAV, LVL CH , V/S) or roll mode (LNAV, HDG SEL)..[h4]Best Wishes,Randy J.
