May 17, 200422 yr Hi Captains, why I'm able to fly with the fuel pump switches set to off?Last time I forgot to set the fuel pump switches to on, but I'm able to start the engines all the same (only I need to set the engine start levers to idle).I'm flying wiht the Boeing 737-600 (but I have also the -700, -800, -900 installed).Any suggestion? Thanks.
May 17, 200422 yr Hi,the engines are gravity-fed, so there's always fuel available. However, the fuel pumps make sure a steady flow of fuel to the engines is guaranteed. It's just a safety precaution to have them running during engine start (and stunt manoeuvres :D )Cheers!Gert ------------------------------------------------- Gert Wijbrans
May 17, 200422 yr Gert.. Pretty close :)The engine driven pumps are sufficient to draw fuel from the tanks via the suction feed line which bypasses the AC driven electrical pumps. But if you do not have the fuel pumps on at high altitude you risk a flameout due to dissolved air bubbling at low pressures. This is recoverable but dependent upon how long uhave been at altitud and how much dissolved air has bubbled out over time ... all round a situation best avoided by completeing the Before Start Checklist and ensuring the pumps are on :)Rgds,
May 17, 200422 yr Brad,I'm sorry if this is a bit OT, but your new signature picture look a lot like this smiley::-hah CheersThomas
