Cruising after descend

Featured Replies

Hi!I've a question about the FMC. I programmed the flight plan, climb and now cruising at choosen FL. For some reasone I must decend to a lower FL. In this case the FMC autmatically switsch to decend mode. Now I'd like to climb back to cruising FL and continue in cruising mode. But the FMC dont allow to switch back to cruising mode. Can anyone help me?ThxMike

The FMC in the NG will think that your flight is divided into three phases. First you have the CLIMB phase, after that you enter the CRUIZE phase, until you are entering the DESCENT phase. And the phases must be flown in that order (which most think is a good thing). ;-)Anyway. You are not allowed to jump between the phases as you've just discovered. The previous phase is being locked out by the FMC for the pilot. To manage descents and climbs in CRUIZE you perform what is called CRUIZE CLIMBS and CRUIZE DESCENTS. Baically you change the FL enter in the CRZ page on the FMC, you change the altitude on the MCP and off she goes. You may have to initiate the altitude change but I'm sure that's in the manual somewhere.Hope it helps,
