Wrong ND indication !! Why ??

Featured Replies

Yesterday night during a flight to LIEO I had a strange problem. When I begun the approach phase, direct to SME VOR a strange situation happened on my cockpit. As you can see in the pictures, on the ND I had a strange configuration on the HDG/MAG direction (looks the white bar). The view from the cockpit was totally wrong and disaligned respect to the external view. The land under of me moved laterally ...Why did that situation happened ??ThanksStefano- Italy - http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/82810.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/82811.jpg

Stefano,The A/P looks pretty much normal from here. Though the screenshots are a bit too small to actually see the numbers. What you are experiencing here is severe, and I mean severe, cross winds. The plane is actually trying to keep up to the wind and align the localiser. The track line on the DU and the localiser bugs seems to correlate to the outside world. Are you using some kind of weather add-on? Sometimes I've heard and experienced that the winds aloft can stick down to ground level. And according to your DU, again, you have winds coming at the speed of maybe (47) knots from the left and behind of you.I would've done a go around and choose the other end of the runway. At least you have a the headwind component coming from ahead, just the way it's supposed to be. And while going around checking up the crosswind component to see that it doesn't exceed the limit for landing. You might also want to check your barometer settings. As it seems you are far below the airport ground level according to the altimeter tape. ;-)Hope it helps,
