July 6, 200421 yr Heeeeeyyy!I have so many butterflies in my stomach that I already have started to copy/past flightplans for the various 747s from some of the worlds airlines...I use this txt file to then decide where to fly and what time and flightnumbers to use...This is something I did in the NG's mid life state, but this is something I already have done with the 747...I know this might not sound like much but hey what preperation is there to do???I have a question for you though...I saw a table on AIA's forums that showed a poly count of your 737NG model, and well it was NOT pretty! Now I love your model, but I do not like the frame rates I get in external view at airports.Have you any thoughts on the model, if it has LODs and lower poly count? As it is kinda bigga than the 737NG ya know...That's all I'll go back and wish for it's release again :-)Boaz...
July 6, 200421 yr Hi,With regard to the ploygon count; how about a version of the 747 with no exterior model?? (i.e. you're in the pit for the duration.)Also, would it be possible to cycle views so you skip the "exterior view?" Surely this would improve stability and smoothness of the sim too? That would be great, for me anyway!Cheers,Paul
July 6, 200421 yr Em what the hell are you talking about? It seems that either you don't want an exterior model, not possible, or you are making fun of what I said about wishing for lower poly count and more LODs...Which one is it?Boaz...
July 6, 200421 yr They are comparing the PMDG model to AI models. Obviously, the polygon count will be of great difference since our model was not meant to be displayed several times at one location. The 747-400 will include several LOD levels for optimized performance.
July 6, 200421 yr Aardvark AI planes..I would worry about that discussion. Its was to show that AI planes have less polys in a nutshell. lol well DUHGary HayesI paint da planeP4 3.0ghz w/HT & FSB..GeForce FX 5900 ultra 256MB..1 gig PC3200 DDR RAM..Sound Blaster Audigy w/5.1 THX Gary Hayes My Youtube No i'm not a "real" pilot, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
July 6, 200421 yr Yeah, I found it. Thanks. No surprise there... I was hoping AI models had less polies than our model. ;)
July 6, 200421 yr Hey Y'allRight, I'm a gMax modeller of 2 years and I just wanna make this clear because people get the wrong message. It is not just poly count which affects performance, textures make a big cut the the performance of the model. I would probably go as far as saying they drag much more performance from the models than a high poly count.. Put a 60,000 poly model in FS with no textures and it'll run like a dream. As soon as you apply textures, it'll slow down massively!. Next, I would expect that since the 747 has 2 extra engines, about 3 times more landing gear details(once you take into account all the doors etc)it is going to be quite hard to make it more performance friendly. It's also larger and so needs more textures. So, basically, what I'm trying to say is they can't get it much more performance friendly really because you'd start loosing details. I hope to god this model is more detailed than Poskys! Hopefully they can Pull off using LOD models like they say, but thats quite difficult to do because most people stay zoomed in relatively close to the model! Also, people seem to confuse VC models and Exterior models. When a Virtual model is loaded, the exterior model is not. When the Exterior model is loaded, the Virtual is not. It has minimal performance hit having a model with both exterior in and interior, only really because it keeps the exterior textures at the ready. If you only use the VC,delete the exterior textures but I doubt it would make much difference!Once again I think I have made an unnecary post, but ohwell!Looking forward to the 744 pmDG, and feel free to blow my mind with details - I won't complaing:7
July 6, 200421 yr >Once again I think I have made an unnecary post, but>ohwell!Sounds like this describes 95%+ of my posts...lol, including this one :)
July 6, 200421 yr Oh dear so many replies :-)I know that AI planes have got to have less poly counts and more LODs, and I also know about the impact that textures have! But again this is a big plane, and I want to see the entire plane and so I don't really need to have all in LOD1, a distance of 300ft or so should be the distance I would look, pardon but I am guessing haven't flown a 744 in about 4 years or so!, em and at that distance I want to see the beautiful 744 shape but also the sorrounding airport when I have arrived and so on...POSKY has LOD and zooming a greater distance can improve fps so by doing so the user can regulate fps them selves...Also about the VC, sure I understand, but having an exterior model with full detailed cockpit, is hard on a system. Mostly you only see glips of the pilot through the cockpit glass, but it is more common to see reflections.I have an ATI 9800 pro which handles textures like a magician, but models, scenery and AI models really strangle my 1900+ AMD chip...That was my point of my quesiton.Boaz...
