July 9, 200421 yr I am still pondering what to do with out a back course on the AP. OK, so it's all very well to program the proceedure and let the FMC fly it while monitoring the NAV data. When you go missed and re-engage the AP, it follows the MA fine, arrives at hold,This is were I run into problems. If ATC told me to fly the transition from hold out the back course, procedural turn and back to the FAP, as it's published, how can I load that transition and apprach into the FMC?I tried this last night, and as soon as I arrived in the hold the FMC said, "End of route", trying to enter a new tranistion from hold to approach, it said, "No active route" and ignored me.Does the real FMC delete waypoints as you pass them, or is there a way to tell it not to, so I can somehow say, ok, fly direct to WPT 7 and continue from there. Maybe create a loop for the MA to hold, to outbound tranistion and approach and round again, until I make the landing.I even considered adding 2 or 3 MA's to the flightplan but, I can't get it to add more than one approach.Any ideas?Do I just have to hand fly it? Taking an example of my local international airport, the CAT a,b,c,d approach transitions from hold have high ground within 1 or 2 miles of the course, which if over flown can cut the AGL to less than 600 feet. In bad weather I would prefer the autopilot was helping me out, especially low vis. and high wind.Another thing is... in flight, you go missed due to bad wx and decide to divert, I haven't tried this, but will the FMC allow me to enter a new destination and approachs for it?
July 10, 200421 yr Before you get to the END OF ROUTE, go the the DEP/ARR page and put another approach into the FMC. You should be able to fly multiple proceedures doing this although I feel this is more a work around thing. VNAV may or may not work.To DIVERT go to ROUTE page and place a new destination into the FMC and EXEC. If The FMC still has the CRUISE page available, go to it and put in the new cruise altitude. On the overhead panel put the new cruise altitude in the preasurrization controller. Go to the ROUTE page and put in the route to the new destination. Go to the DEP/ARR page and enter an approach for you new destination. You may or may not be able to get VNAV to work again. You can use the autopilot or hand fly the airplane at any time.Yes the real FMC will delete past waypoints.Floyd John Floyd
