July 20, 200421 yr HIFirst of all great product. Now a quick query, im ued to flying Airbus's and this is my first real go in a boeing, my question is if i select a heading and altitude and arm AP then plan responds fine and locates this course, however if i touch the joystick it seems to override the AP and allows the plane to be moved manually even though AP is engaged,Is this normal in the 737 or am i missing something as the Airbus diabled any feed to move the plane when AP is armed?Thankssteve
July 20, 200421 yr Commercial Member Steve, could it be that you did engage CWS instead of CMD on the MCP?Anyway, you must know that on the real 737NG the pilot may override the autopilot by moving the yoke, but then CMD will drop out to CWS, it is not the same as on an Airbus where the Sidestick gets locked...Best regards,Markus Markus Burkhard
July 20, 200421 yr ahh this must be why then yes when i move the yoke the plane will bank even though its set to otherwise using AP, never mind i must just make sure not to move the yoke :)
July 20, 200421 yr Read about CWS in the manual. It's an additional system to the Autopilot Boeings have.
July 20, 200421 yr Ah with CWS you can set a heading and altitude, when pressure is applied to the yoke this is overriden, then when pressure if released from the yoke the set heading and altitude is maintained again automatically, am i correct?
July 20, 200421 yr Now I remembered that you might find very little info about CWS in the manuals for some reason, you should search PMDG forums for CWS. I remember some people gave pretty good descriptions what exactly CWS does.Without much going into detail, CWS maintains pitch and roll, if you exceed 5 degree bank (don't know exactly now what's with the roll). I don't know about setting HDG and ALT in the CWS mode. I use CWS if manually flying approach or STAR, which is fun. For the final approach, it's rather unpractical. If you are in the AP mode, and apply constant pressure on the yoke, it will enter appropriate CWS mode (pitch or roll).
