I`ve just finished my first flight. I can`t say the FMC behaved impecably, but I`m sure that`s down to me.I was lined up perfectly with the APP switch on. Then it went out, but the aircraft still came in for a perfect landing. Is it normal for the APP to switch off but still work? Also, I couldn`t get a second autopilot to light up, even though I was perfectly lined up.One final point - the manual says there are two flight director switches. Is this a missprint or am I going blind?Hope you guys can help.Cheers,David

Hello David,"I was lined up perfectly with the APP switch on. Then it went out, but the aircraft still came in for a perfect landing. Is it normal for the APP to switch off but still work? Also, I couldn`t get a second autopilot to light up, even though I was perfectly lined up." Yes this is how the real aircraft works, the APP light goes out AND you look to the pilot's flight display which will show G/S information etc. You must also engage the second A/P prior to 800 RA OR it is locked out. You must also have the NAV Radios tuned manually. On final approach lined up and before the G/S you can ARM the second A/P. The PFD will show SINGLE CHANNEL until passing 1500 RA not at G/S intercept and then SINGLE CHANNEL with change to CMD.One final point - the manual says there are two flight director switches. Is this a missprint or am I going blind?" I'm not sure why you ask but there certainly are 2 F/D switches in the Virtual cockpit, not the 2D panel cockpit. For this sim, the Captain's F/D is master always. Best Wishes,
Randy J. Smith

P M D G's 747-400

coming to a runway near you
Caution! Thanks for that Randy. I hadn`t got around to the virtual cockpit yet. There`s a lot more I have to try before I get around to that.Cheers,David
