GS and TAS

Featured Replies

Hi,Sometimes when there is a headwind, the GS is higher than the TAS. The wind arrow, direction and speed appear to be correct (verified with FSNav). There might be a problem with the GS readout. Overall, great plane!

Can you reproduce and send us a pic? The GS and TAS come directly from FSUIPC, so we might need to take this up with Pete... What FSUIPC version are you using?

FSUIPC 3.30, FSMETEO 6.4. See the attached picture. I think I understand what is going on. In FSUIPC I use 2 seconds of wind smoothing (each 1 degree change in wind takes 2 seconds). When FSMETEO gives you large wind changes, this prevents all sorts of havoc on airspeed and altitude, which tend to trip VNAV off. When a large wind change occurs (say 180 degrees), the GS in the ND immediately reflects the entire change in direction and speed, while the indicated wind direction, speed and arrow change at 1 degree every 2 seconds. Thus, the discrepancy. When I removed all wind smoothing in FSUIPC, the discrepancies disappeared! A small thing :-)
