I also have this problem and when I try to enter a flightplan the FMC says it is not in the database [ though it is in the flightplan folder of the PMDG folder ] and then says there is a program error.I assume this is an initializing problem but can't see any way of overcoming it.

Yes it's normal. But this is for future use if ACARS. It has no function by now as ACARS is not implemented yet.
