August 21, 200421 yr I was vectored onto the ILS at BOS today and intercepted around 20+ miles out. They had me at 1800 feet until intercept. I hit the APP button and the next thing I knew I was climbing up to meet the Glideslope and almost up to 4,000 feet. I thought that whatever altitude you had sent in the "altitude window" was supposed to be held until intercept. Am I doing something wrong?
August 21, 200421 yr Its kind of fun when this happens which is a lot if you use the built in ATC. I work around this by waiting to engage APP until I am just above the glideslope or just ride it up for chuckles.
August 21, 200421 yr That's why I never fly with IFR in FS, it's too stupid. But yes, the APP can fly up to capture the glideslope.Nick B.Continental Airlines Virtual 737NG Pilothttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/800driver.jpg--AMD Athlon XP 3200+ @ 2.2 Ghz (Equal to 2.8 ghz)400W Power supply3x 80 mm Case FansSoyo VIA KT600 Dragon PlusnVidia GeForce FX 5200 128 mb2 x 512 PC400100 GB Western DigitalMicrosoft Sidewinder Precision 2
August 21, 200421 yr I've gotten to the point where I just disregard their approach orders. For example, if they tell me to descend to 1,800 twenty five miles from the airport, I'm like "I don't think so, let's make it 3000 for now." If they tell me to turn to x degrees to intercept final, I'll add 10 degrees to it so that I can intercept it a little farther out. Fortunately, ATC is not too insistent during approach so I usually get away with it. The ATC/Approach Control program I wrote back in the FS98 days was much more sophisticated and efficient about vectoring, as were other non-MS ATC programs. I'm really looking forward to the new version of Radar Contact, which supports AI awareness.Regards,R. Foster
August 21, 200421 yr Using Radar Contact I don't ever run into this problem (grin). Since there are real world ATC controllers from both the US and Europe on the team, the RC procedures are right on the money. You can f8nd more about Radar Contact here: http://www.jdtllc.com/For my own procedure after I tune the ILS freq in, I wait until first the localizer is correct then click on the loc button, when the Glide Slope is above me I then turn on the app button.CheersBob
August 21, 200421 yr Darn , I just bought FSNav today and figured after Active Sky, PMDG, and FS Nav I would be finsihed with the add-ons. Oh well, what's another few bucks :)
