737 LNAV/ND deviation problem

Featured Replies

Guys,Just recently, I have begun having problems with the ND display not corresponding with the correct flight path. It draws the line to follow, but when the LNAV tries to follow the line, the line seems innacurate and so the Autopilot must constantly correct itself (usually to the left) to stay on the line. Using the wind corrected heading does not keep it lined up. There seems to be a discrepancy between the line as displayed (and used by the LNAV) and the actually Flight sim world. I don't know if there is a way to fix this, if anyone else has this problem, or if it has anything to do with the lastest navdata arinc cycle. I have the lastest of everything, and the problem just started about 3 weeks ago. It seems to be the most pronounced error when I am flying east or west, not north of south. Right now I am flying from Denver to Des Moines, FL330 and I just crossed HCT vor. The next vor is OBH, the FMC has determined a course of 064 and the LNAV just turned to that heading. However, that is incorrect and so the line from HCT-OBH is drifted to the north and so the AP is correcting. I have a 60kt tailwind, some of that component is from the back RIGHT. Ultimately, the AP has found that a heading of 057 will keep me on the correct course. Thats 7 degrees to the LEFT. That makes no sense with my quartering tailwind. In the past, there has been error as much as 25 degrees to the left, and the error seems to be assosiated with where I am. The farther west I am, the worse it gets.Is there a problem with magnetic variation or something? I hope you guys have a clue what I'm talking about. I am best reached at [email protected] or [email protected] in advance, I hope you guys can figure out a solution. Dan Moses

To be candid here, the line is far from perfect. But the aircraft IS following the programmed route although at **times** the line drawn is not exactly correct. Keep in mind a few things, one it takes an incredible amount of processing power to do all the calculations to display this 100% at all times. In fact, it would give you no frames per second if the required processing power was actually given to this task! Also, airways are not defined by a little magenta line. DIR-TO is from the nose of your aircraft to the wpt. Route segemnts are from wpt to wpt. DRIFT is not the issue most see with the line. And finally, it happens in the real world too but I believe for reasons not as we see in flight simulator. Best Wishes,
Randy J. So the moral of the story is that it COULD be my system can't handle it? The deviation happens the whole flight almost all the time, online or offline, good wx or bad wx, reguardless of what else is going on with my system. I'll try to give FS more available memory (fly offline, no weather, nothing else running) and see if that helps at all. No. It means the line is not perfect. At times it will appear right on (Like if you perform a DIR TO) because it will redraw the line from the nose to the next wpt etc. One of the issues seems to be the complex drawing routines involved in turns etc. The FMC calculates the path (and does a fairly good job considering) taking into account many variables but still fails to be right on at times. So, this is something that we just have to live with. Don't get me wrong, it has come a LONG WAY from the first edition and hopefully will be something in the future that is revisited, you never know... Best Wishes,
Randy J. Dan,What version of the 737 package are you using? If you do not have the 800/900 series update purchased and installed there is a pretty significant lateral track error inherent in the EHSI display. If this is the case, you have to shell out about $30 more dollars to have this fixed, sorry.I'm not sure if this is what you are experiencing or not.

PMDG should remain cognizant that they will not be the only game in town forever. Ya'll might wanna consider that before you decide not to take care of these little issues here and there. Shucks, a competing developer might just rain on your parade before you know it. Who said PIC v2? Not me!!!!!! :)

I have the latest 800/900. The thing that puzzles me about the issue is that it never happened before the 800/900 came out, and then didn't happen until a few weeks ago. It ran GREAT for a while, and then suddenly started to act up. I say it might be the Navdata becuase it seems as if it doesn't draw the fixes in the correct location. For example, I departed Reno the other day, and there is a fix right off the end of the runway that is supposed to be runway heading. The fix is HNGRY, which is located on the Localizer for 16R (I was departing 34L). That fix should have been straight ahead on the extended centerline, but it wasn't. It was drawn about 3 miles to the EAST of where it should have been. The funny thing is, when i take off and I fly heading 344 (runway heading), I actually drift on the ND display off to the east AWAY from the white extended centerline and towards HNGRY. So, it doesn't display correctly, but then you go there. This really messes up the LNAV. BEcuaes the heading it turns too isn't correct. I hope this provides some insight. Dan moses

Ok this could be another issue and not what I have been talking about. Does the fix appear like this on yours?http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/89434.jpg I seem to recall something like this happening but have not seen it in a while. Let me see if I can locate the fix for you... Prior to SU2 there was an issue with International localization settings (folks in Europe) causinf something like this. Ok, can you please use the REMOVER TOOL here http://www.precisionmanuals.com/downloads/inc_downloading.asp?iFile=209 Make sure you have the latest FSUIPC installed (manually remove it if needed and re-install) and the newest AIRAC from Navdata installed again http://www.navdata.at/php/airac/airac.php. I believe there is something corrupted somewhere here that maybe we can fix...Best Wishes,
Randy J. Smith
http://www.rawbw.com/~bdoolin/shinault/Animation1.gifCaution! That isn't how it appears. HNGRY would be about 2-3 miles EAST of the localizer as shown. The wiered thing is, once you take off, you start drifted towards HNGRY on the ND, but going straight ahead on the flight. I redownloaded and everything, and it didn't seem to fix it. I also can't get my /800-900 installer to work now! Crap. Dan moses

I have an screenshot to help you guys see whats wrong.I am landing in RKSS on 14L. You'll notice that the ND shows that I am RIGHT of the white centerline and on that heading, but I am to the to LEFT of the waypoints on the Localizer, and the runway is to my Right as well. The ND shows the runway to the left of me. I am also having that issue reloading the 800/900, thast why I have the older version in the picture. The ND issue is the same, howerever.Daniel [email protected]'m not sure if the pic will be in the body, or attached somewhere.

Hello Dan, When all fails re-install re-install re-install! Now, if it was me I would re-install the whole flight simulator making sure to MANUALLY remove ANY folders that the uninstall did not remove (Just deleting the FS2004 program file folder will do here) then installing everything in order. BUT, if you have way too many addons that this is an all day thing, then download the newest NG REMOVER TOOL http://www.precisionmanuals.com/downloads/inc_downloading.asp?iFile=209 THEN also delete the FMCWP folder and reinstall it too. Install the NG in the correct order and cross your fingers. With your having issues loading the 800-900 I believe there is corrupted files somewhere on your install so hopefully this will fix it...
