September 24, 200421 yr Is there a reason why I seem to be lacking about half the EGLL SIDs? It appears I only have COMPTON and DOVER (I think one other fix), but WOBUN and BUZAD sids are not there. I fly a lot from EGLL to home (EGA-) and these SIDs are used a lot. It's not a biggy they are simply enough to enter using the RTE or LEGs page, with DIRECT BURHAM, DIRECT WOBUN for example just thought I would ask.Can I also ask why is the SID/STAR database is based on a military database and not a civil one? I suppose the second questions is... How come the military SIDs and STARs are quite frankly wrong in a lot of ways?I'm getting a little peeved with navigation accuracy these days, it appears (not PMDGs fault or the SID/STAR creator) that Flying NAVaids as accurately as possible and then looking at the route on FSNav I am sometimes a mile or more off track, when following the VOR radial perfectly only 15 miles from the thing. I have noticed this quite a lot these days. FSnav says a course line in 232 and yet the radio nav says it's 230 and things like that.Maybe I have corrupted my nav database installing something.Any thoughts?
September 24, 200421 yr Hello PaulA full set of EGLL sids and stars can be found on my site here http://homepage.ntlworld.com/simon.butler2...usefulfiles.htmand from the navdata site. The limitations of the DAFIF data used to create the sidstar database has been discussed many times here in the past.Simon
September 24, 200421 yr >Is there a reason why I seem to be lacking about half the EGLL SIDs?Yes. The SIDs are developed from the DAFIF database and it just does not contain all the civilian SIDs there are. My guess is that they only include terminal procedures that are of interest to or can be used by the military. You can go to navdata.at and download various 3rd party developed procedures. Maybe someone has developed the SIDs you want at EGLL. Barring that you can write your own procedures. There is a tutorial available in the avsim.com file library.>Can I also ask why is the SID/STAR database is based on a military database>and not a civil one? The digital DAFIF database is free and updated every 28 days. The digital civil database is very expensive. I can't provide a free service if I have to spend thousands to just get the data.>How come the military SIDs and STARs are quite frankly wrong in a lot of ways?I know that the SIDs start off with a climb to an altitude that is not found on the civilian charts. I rarely get any feedback about wrong SIDs/STARs/IAPs though. You have some examples? I correct when possible. My feedback address is in the txt file that comes with the procedures.>I'm getting a little peeved with navigation accuracy these days,Just a theory but flying the sim involves a lot of math and sources of data. There is a lot of opportunity for error or variance because of tolerances. FS04 was released, with then, almost current navdata but it is old now. Who knows what the accuracy of it's geo-referencing math is. FSNav uses it's own math routines to draw it's maps and it also is capable of using FS04 or the DAFIF derived and massaged navdata provided by navdata.at. Throw in an aircraft with it's math routines to find position, display position and maintain a flightpath and I see opportunity for discrepancies. But, it's just a theory. It is entirely possible that someone's math routines were not up to the challenge. Interesting topic for a whole new topic string.RegardsTerry
