How to make cockpit side windows 100% transparent?

Featured Replies

Hi,While tweaking my system to get the best of it, I observed that the frame rate was much lower when looking through the left window (for example) than when looking forward (2D panel). For example, in a situation above the clouds where I get 52 fps looking forward, I would get only 36 when looking left. If I type W to hide the cockpit, I get 52 fps in all directions.I think this is due to the 'semi transparent reflective' windows that are on the sides but not on the forward view.Is there anyway I can remove the reflective effect from these windows?Thanks.Eric.

I just forgot to say this is with the 737NG v1.3.Eric.

WOW, I'd be plenty content with 32 FPS in flight sim!I do believe this is in the texture file, although I've never went into the cockpit textures really well. Sure someone else will have the answer.

After some investigations, I found that the reflective glass texture does not appear when using the 2D only panel, who does not use the VC side views. So I guess the texture is defined in the virtual cockpit model and cannot be removed.Am I right? This is really killing the frame rate when looking through the side windows.Alternatively, is there a way to get the 2D panel to not use VC side views, but only 2D views, and yet be able to use the 2D/VC/cabin model?Eric.

Hi Eric.I found out one day, that it's only the org. PMDG liveries that have these sidewindow reflections and I miss them when I fly other liveriesI think that they are very fine and wonder why they are missing.Ole

Pretty sure it works with all liveries for me, but I'll need to check to be 100%.BR,Frank

Eric,Why would you want frame rates over 32 anyway???? :-hmmmSounds like shooting over the target if you ask me.Don't think there's a way for what you're asking anyway. Cheers,

Mats,Who said I wanted frame rate over 32? What I want is to not pay 40% of my frame rate to see the windows pseudo reflection. Also, I didn't say that yet, but stutters are clearly visible when looking through those windows. I probably have 50+ fps, but it's stuttering enough to lower the average to 32. It's just not smooth. The situation where I get 52 fps frontview and 32 leftview is above clouds, blue sky, 0% AI, reduced weather settings. In a thunderstorm with AI and higher settings, the frame rate would be something like 20 (smooth) and 12 (stuttering). I want 20 and 20, which is possible if I don't have to look through this transparent texture.Again, without the windows texture (2D panel only), even with only 20 fps, the view is smooth in all directions. Eric.

Fair engough! You made me sort of interested. So I took the -600 up to altitude and over water to test your theory. I couldn't see any drop in looking around. And this is what I would expect. You might want to consider any other possibilities as to why your frame rates drop. I set my frames to unlimited and they where fluctuating between 40 and 100 with an average around 55 in all views.2D panel front (53.2 FPS):http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/95173.jpgLeft side view (59.6 FPS):http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/95174.jpgRight front side view (41.5 FPS):http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/95175.jpgCheers,

Mats,Your screenshots are very interesting. They show REAL reflections, not pseudo reflection like what I see.Could it be PMDG improved this with the 800-900 addon? I don't have it yet and I'm still running the version 1.3 600-700 (I stopped flying for a few months and I'm just coming back to it now. I'm planning to get the 800-900 anytime now).Eric.

Eric,I don't think they are real as in real time reflections. But they certainly look real. ;-)You are probably right! It could be an issue with the 600/700 v1.3. I'll see if I can install the 1.3 package and see if I can replicate your problem. In the mean time get the 800/900 it's well worth it!! :+Cheers,
