October 24, 200421 yr Gents,For manual landings and no ILS, how far from the runway threshold should one start extending flaps and what speed?I tried to be 1800' about 20 miles from the threshold, at 190kt,and then at 10 miles i dropped 5 Flaps @170kt, and at 3 miles, i wentto FMC Vref, gear down, in this case 145kt + 30 flaps.I must have been pretty fast, because i slightly overshot, got a few SINK warnings b/c of the 30 flaps out too late, when i had to drop like a stone. How do you plan a proper approach profile? It's a little easier in a C-152 :-)cheers,Josh
October 24, 200421 yr Hi Josh,Check out the profiles in this pdf: http://www.fmcguide.com/media/profiles.pdfThey're for the -300 to -500 but will get you the same results with the NG.JohnBoeing 727/737 & Lockheed C-130/L-100 Mechanichttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/ng_driver.jpg
October 25, 200421 yr A good thing from real is that keep not below 155-160 kts and 15 flaps until 4 DME from the airfield and then begin slowing down step by step to your Vref speed and configuration. For example, when you have 160 kts and 15 flaps and reach 4 nm, set your speed to the next lower flap speed on the speed tape and when you have 10 kts to decelerate, set flaps to the correct position, then again speed to the next point and again flaps until you reach your desired conf.
October 26, 200421 yr Gents,An accurate deceleration profile is available in th Geezer Guide. LMK if it doesn't work.I am sorry but the above advice does not relate to the real world in any way.Bill Bulfers profiles are as good as you need.RGDS,
