Gents, Trying to clear a mountain from VNLK.. don't know what these engines are rated at, but if anyone has the Vx (and Vy) for this bird, it would be appreciated.Cheers,Josh

I was under the impression that most jets do not have a best angle/best rate of climb and that most of the time V2+20 was used to clear obstacles. I might be wrong though.

I might be wrong though.On the CLB page of the FMC, you'll see buttons for best angle and best rate. Select and EXEC what's best for you.Since the speed varies with weight and atmospheric factors, using the FMC is best because it will automatically and continually adjust the speed.Once you've passed the obstacle, reselect ECON climb. And, of course, don't do any thrust de-rating on the N1 page.

I though it had something to do with angle of attack??!Max. angle is for the slowest climb rate and MAX. Rate is for the fastest climb rate...or something like this.

Max angle means you gain the greatest amount of altitude for the distance travled over the ground. Max rate is for a particular period of time. You could gain more altitude in a minute with Vy vs Vx, but slam into the trees on the end of the runway. To get up over the trees, you need to get up fast and are not worried about the amount of time it takes.Bob K.
