Basic topics: Markers/Mimimums/Aural

Greetings! Some more elementary questions I'd appreciate some answers on:Marker Beacons:During an ILS approach and when crossing the marker beacons, how do we get aural indications (like the beeps) in the NG Flight deck? At the moment I only see that circular display with OM or MM written inside in on the top right corner of the PFD. Does this provision exist?Landing Altitude:What is the purpose of setting the landing field altitude on the overhead panel (the one after the cruise altitude)...what does that do? Something to do with the minimums for pilots? and also that only increases in increments of 10...so how do set say...744' elevation?Last question, what is mimimums? Is it a minimum visibility certification of some sorts for crews?Look forward to your replies..Thanks,Pranav

I don't know anything about the aural OM etc indications.I can however tell you something about the landing altitudes and minimums. The landing and also the cruising altitude that you can set in the overhead panel is used by the automatic pressurisation system. If you land an aircraft at say 1000ft you will need to have a different pressure inside the aircraft than when you land it at 0 ft etc...Now, about minimums. Minimums is the actual height at which the aircrew must have the runway in sight (visually, not on the flight instruments). If the aircrew doesn't have the runway in sight by the time MINIMUMS is called the descision is to GO AROUND.

Hi Pranav,Marker Beacons:You can use the default key assignment(SHFT+3, I think) to turn marker sounds on and off. I will check when I get home from work.A neat way to add buttons that will turn on marker sounds, NAV/COM radios, etc(as described by Tim Metzinger in his tutorial), is to add the audio panel from the default 737-400 to the 737NG radio panel by editing the panel.cfg file for the aircraft in question(under the radio stack panel window). Just add the last line below, like this:*** Please back up your panel.cfg file first!!! ***{Window08} // PMDG_RADIO_STACK_PANEL....gauge01=737-400!Audio, 315, 430, 250 // add audio panel(Note: gauge number should be previous gauge number+1).(Another note: Window08 should be surrounded by square brackets, not parentheses).BR,Frank

There's no need to add anything...just click the button that says MKR on the radio panel, under the MIC select portion...make sure it lights up and you are set. :)

Mikkel et alThere are audio selectors on the -800/900 but for those of who still play around with the -600/700 the above tweak of the aircraft.cfg file is a good one!Cheers,

Ahh...see I didn't know that. I only fly the 800/900. :D

That would be me, Mats!I tend to prefer the smaller versions of the 737.Apart from the audio selectors, what other differences come to mind on the bigger planes? I think retractable landing lights might be one(I need to check!).Also I would be interested to know why people might prefer the larger models?BR,Frank
