How do i select Transition and STAR?

Featured Replies

Hi folksAs simple as you see! Which transition/STAR do i have to select when planning into FMS? Which transition/STAR is which?I usually plan my flight into FSNav and after that i export to PMDG 737; but now i want to try planning in FMS... does it whorth it?Thanks in advance for helpingLuigi ;-)

Luigi,You can't really plan a flight with the FMC. It's not a flight planner per se. With that said you would need some help if you are doing the whole route without any flight planning utility than the FMC. AIP charts for the dep and arr airports plus high airway charts will be needed. After that it's reading the maps, punching in the plan and off you go! Piece of cake! ;-)Hope it helps,

Hi Mats,>You can't really plan a flight with the FMC. It's not a>flight planner per se. What i wanted to know was: once flight planned via FSNav and imported in FMC, is it possible to select transition, STAR and landing Rwy?Thanks for helpingLuigi ;-)

Ah ok Luigi, ;-)Well you still need some airport charts or good knowledge of the airport (the latter only in our simulated world of course). And you need your flight plan to begin and end at the designated termination points for the procedures. It's pretty easy in the states (or should I say north america) because most of the terminal procedures are not runway dependant and thus not wx dependant so you file this in your original flight plan. See for example the OHARE ONE departure for KORD. It's one departure with vectors from all runways to a myriad of termination waypoints. For european airports it's a bit different as the terminal procedures are often connected to a runway and for STARs actually often lead the pilot all the way down to the FAF.Get some charts and you'll figure out what procedures will connect your active runways with the terminating waypoints for your route.Good luck,
