UK Waypoint UK03

Featured Replies

When I fly into London from the North West (usually EGPF to EGLL) somewhere around the Oxford area is a waypoint labelled UK03. Any idea what this is and why it is numbered completely differently to all the other waypoints please ?

Hi Dave,Just for the #### of it i searched for UK03 in FSNAV and it came up with an airport called Enstone slightly North-West of oxford. So It isnt a waypoint but an airport. Why it doesn't start with EG__ I have no idea, so leave that for the experts. It has 2 runways 8, 26 and 8R and 26L. Hope this helps a little. I am now curious so may try and research a little moretake careJohn Calleja

Hi again DavidTried some further searches for uk on FSNAV and it finds UK01 which is called Deenethorpe near Northampton, and FSNAV finds uk05 called Full Sutton, whick is almost on the ILS of EGXG Church Fenton airbase. The plot thickensregardsJohn Calleja

John,Thanks for that - perhaps they just ran out of names for waypoints. I understand that in the ATC world they ask for suggestions for waypoint names and sometimes get bizarre suggestions. For example close to the Lorel waypoint is Hardy I think !

Got me curious to. The FSNAV database shows these entries:UK01 52.506668 -000.588333 DeenethorpeUK02 50.859928 -003.234982 DunkeswellUK03 51.929993 -001.430000 EnstoneUK04 57.758327 -003.941667 FearnUK05 53.979996 -000.863333 Full SuttonI then looked at http://www.ais.org.uk ( Need to register) and found some with EG numbers and others without as listed below:Deenethorpe = Not found in AIP ( http://www.controltowers.co.uk/D/Deenethorpe.htm )Dunkeswell = EGTUEnstone = Not found in AIP ( http://www.pixture.co.uk/Airfields/Pages/Enstone.htm )Fearn = Not found in AIP ( http://www.controltowers.co.uk/F/Fearn.htm )Full Sutton = EGNUInterestingly they are all fetured here http://www.controltowers.co.uk/listing.htmMy theory is that the database (DAFIF) used to create the listings in things like FSNAV is US based and the military have included them for some reason. Even more confusng Fearn is listed as EG0C in FS9.Anyway enough of the conspiracy theory. It's 03:25am here in the UK so I must be pretty bored.
