AT System

Featured Replies

Hello,** Touchdown/Landing **The AT system will not automatically retard throttles during manual (AP disengaged) or non-ILS landings. The question is, during manual or non-ILS landings with AT armed and SPD mode active, Why the AT SPD mode remain on after touchdown? Do real pilots have to press the AT disconnect button just right after touchdown? What is the correct procedure? Is the 747 different from the 737/767 in this case? Thanks,Regards,Sergio

"The question is, during manual or non-ILS landings with AT armed and SPD mode active, Why the AT SPD mode remain on after touchdown?"You would have to ask the design engineers this, Sergio. It's just the way it works. You are really supposed to disconnect the A/T before touchdown. You have to retard the thrust levers to idle during "flare". The thrust levers must be at idle before touchdown, otherwise the reversers and autospeedbrake will not operate. If your A/T is still engaged, and you pull back on the thrust levers to put them at idle for touchdown, the A/T will want to put the thrust levers back where they were before (trying to maintain your approach airspeed).Disconnecting the A/T during flare will be your last chance to do so without stuffing up the landing. However, you will probably find that the pilots will disengage the A/T _before_ flare as part of their procedures. If the A/T is engaged for landing and you manually force the throttles to idle, applying reverse thrust will disconnect the A/T... but this is really NOT recommended. The 767 is the same. The 737NG, if I recall correctly, is slightly different. It will retard the throttles to idle even with the A/P disengaged (but I think you still need ILS signals).Hope this helps.Cheers.Q>
