January 6, 200620 yr Yesterday when flying the 744, I instructed the plane to climb to FL320 but I kept getting an error in my FMC saying something like "MAX ALT FL246", and the plane wouldn't climb above that. Is this something to do with the fact that I forgot to arm autothrottle?Thanks...
January 6, 200620 yr Hello person senza nome,Please sign your name at the end of your posts, because those are the guidelines for this forum. The FMC is telling you it cannot execute your requested altitude... because... you are too heavy. Use your OPT ALT indication instead.Tom Tom James
January 6, 200620 yr The FMS requires that you be able to climb to a cruise altitude, remain there for at least one minute, and then descend to your destination. The max cruise altitude is dependent on two things:Weight - the heavier you are, the lower the altitude for a given length.Distance - the shorter the distance between departure and destination, the lower the cruise altitude for a given weight.
January 6, 200620 yr It's strange that I was too heavy though.I had just begun a flight from KLAX to KATL, with my fuel tank only 1/3 full (which is about 127,000lbs right?) I did load a full compliment with FS Passengers, including full cargo in each hold, if that makes a difference. But I didn't think FS Passengers made a difference on the actual performance of the aircraft? Maybe I was wrong though. Thanks once again for any help.
