[DIV ALIGN=center]The 2002 Convention and Exhibition!September 13th and 14thIn Beautiful South Lake Tahoe![/DIV][P align=justify]Time is growing short! Just over a month to go and the 2002 Simulation Convention and Exhibition will be upon us! If you haven't yet registered for the event, we encourage you to do so! Here's just a partial list of things that will be happening at the event![OL][LI]Friday, September 13th: First, we'll gather at 9:00 a.m. and board chartered buses and make our way down to the Reno Air Races. We'll participate in the day's events there and watch the closed course races throughout the day. Guaranteed to be exciting and an aviation enthusiast's dream come true.At approximately 5:00 P.M. we'll board the buses back to Lake Tahoe and make our way back up the summit among the beautiful scenery that surrounds our route back to the hotel. Later that evening, after you have had time to unwind and recount your up close and personal views of the air races, we'll settle in for a casual buffet and cocktail party held in the convention hall itself. There, you will get to meet the exihibitors and your fellow flight sim enthusiasts for a casual evening of fun and libations. When the time is appropriate, we'll shut down and you will be able to partake of the night life of Tahoe and the tables and slots of the beautiful Horizons Casino (and any of the others that you care to visit).[LI]Saturday, September 14th: The real action starts at 9:00 a.m. sharp on Saturday morning. We open up the exhibition hall and you will be able to visit the booths of many exhibitors in the simulation world. You will be able to view and operate their latest products, purchase if you so choose, and view the latest technologies that will soon be making their way into our hobby. You will be able to take up the challenge of Microsoft's about-to-be-released Combat Simulator 3! Be one of the first to see and try this new combat sim! You will be able to meet with the crews from MS, CH Products, Aerosoft, Just Flight, Phoenix Simulations, Real Cockpit, Project Magenta, Airplan, GoFlight, VMax and many others, including the team from AVSIM Online!During the day, we'll be hosting a flight contest (secret at this time, but appropriate to the convention), and you will have your chance to win some fabulous prizes if you can stake your claim as the best pilot in the convention! We'll also be holding random drawings in which you will have a chance to win some great gifts and flight simulation related products! One of the best give aways will be an autographed print of the FS2002 panel of the Beach Baron by the entire FS crew at Microsoft! Suitable for framing and a great one of a kind![DIV ALIGN=center]http://www.avsim.com/pages/tom/auto1_tn.gif[/DIV]While the convention is in full swing, we'll start off the papers sessions at 9:30! There you will listen and view some great presentations on specific areas of our hobby. Everything from home cockpit design to the professional use of Flight Simulation at Boeing! Included in the papers presentations will be two from Microsoft; CFS3 and designing with GMax! John Dekker will be reviewing his next release of Radar Contact. We are adding to the papers lineup, so keep your ears tuned for more announcements in this are in the coming weeks! At the conclusion of the Papers Session Saturday afternoon, we be holding the FLY OFF. All those that qualified from earlier flight testing in the day will have an opportunity to strut their stuff in front of all attendees! The winner will take home some great software and hardware for their efforts!Saturday night is the big event! After a day at the convention, you will be able to attend the AVSIM Awards Banquet and cocktail session! A sit down dinner and a gaggle of speakers! We'll start the evening off with a Key Note address by Captain (RET) Tom Otterbein, former CO of the U.S. Navy's Top Gun school and the Inaugeral skipper of the U.S. Aircraft Carrier Truman! A great guy, with a lot of experience, and some great things to say about aviation, and our hobby. You will not want to miss Tom's talk, we are sure! From there we'll host the first AVSIM Awards! Contributors to our hobby will be recognized and presented with awards for that contributions in a number of categories. Finally, the a random drawing will be held for the winner of the RIDE TO RENO prize! A lucky individual who has attended the conference and exhibition will be picked and will receive up to $2,000 of their expenses paid by Microsoft and AVSIM Online![/OL]So, if you haven't registered yet, do so!
