Speed control during a VNAV approach in 747-400

If you elect to allow VNAV to do an approach and take you down to the airport (at least to within 100 or 50 vertical feet of it), must you conduct SPD intervention on the MCP or will the FMC control the speed for you and step it down in stages? [How about if you enter a SPD RESTR in the DESC page of the FMC, and enter, say, the Vref30+5 speed for 1500 feet?]Jonathan

How about if you enter a SPD RESTR in the DESC page of the FMC, and enter, say, the Vref30+5 speed for 1500 feet?
