744 FS9 Questions

Hi I got a few questions about the PMDG 747-400. 1. Regarding step climbs,Say I'm flying at 33000 ft and on the VNAV page it says the optimal is 32500 feet, would I step climb to say 35000 feet or do I follow the step climb line where it says step climb at 0550z/2000 nm. I am asking this because if I follow the step climb line by the time I step climb that altitude is below the optimal shown... so it is not efficient!2. I tried doing some MTOW engine failures past V1, and I always seem to crash. What happens is that my plane can't maintain V2+10 so I stall and crash into the ground. I think this happens because I cannot seem to swtich to the TO/GA setting from the TO setting on the Thrust Limit page (its just TO1,TO2, CLB, etc)(correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that what you are supposed to do after an engine failure?)3. What vertical speed should I be aiming at on touchdown?4. How do I turn on the Air Conditioning/ Heat in order to maintain a specific temperature?Thanks for your help, Igor

Igor,1. You actually want to be at or just below your optimal altitude. Going above it is wasting fuel more fuel in the act of climbing than you'd gain from being there. The FMC will automatically place optimized step climb points along the route if it determines it needs them.2. I'm not an emergency/abnormals expert honestly - I'll try to get RSR to chime in for you on this - he did a ton of these in training the past few weeks.3. Around 750FPM is standard on the glideslope, flare gently toward the end to soften it to less than that.4. The PASS TEMP and FLT DECK knobs on the middle right side of the overhead provide basic temperature control. (not that this really means anything tangible in a PC sim though)
