[MD-11] Warning /3GB switch [Introduction section 0.00.57]

Featured Replies

Hello,Just wanted to warn you guys of using the /3GB switch as stated in the Introduction sections 0.00.57 and 0.00.58.Your boot.ini should look as follows; (and depends on your operating system, i,e Windows Home or Pro)boot loader timeout=30default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWSoperating system multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /NoExecute=optIn /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /NoExecute=optIn /fastdetect /3GB It is safer to have two booting choices one normal boot and the other with the 3GB switch, just in case your system goes nuts, you can always choose to boot from the original boot. Please do not copy the above boot lines from here( as they are missing brackets), since it was typed in. Instead copy it from your boot.iniOn another hand, I have a question, Should we use the patch mentioned in section 0.00.58 every time we intend to start FSX or is it a one time patch?Regards,Mo

Good advice!Once should also add /USERVA=2560 as well so you end up with:multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional 3GB Switch" /3GB /USERVA=2560The USERVA 2560 mod is critical otherwise you are dedicating the full 3GB to the programs leaving less than 1GB for system. Throw in a 768MB video card and bang OOM.Specific instructions (courtesy of Gary):

Thanks for the clarification and input Konrad.Regards,Mo
