B727 on Short Runways

Featured Replies

I'm using Mike Stone's B727 with several different paints and it really looks great and flys even better. The only problem I've encounter is using it with AI on short? runways.I tried it at SMF which has an 8000 ft runway but it touches down about 1/2 - 2-3 way down the runway and the goes missed approach. No problems at SEA which using 34L which is 9,400 ft.What's the shortest anyone been able to get AI to land. Thanks .. Rich

I tried the B727 at SAN and it landed okay. I noticed that it does land long compared to some of the other models flown by AI. Yeah, SAN has a steep approach but the AI flights don't seem to fly it that way.

Do you know how to use AFCAD?You can adjust the center location of the airport....sometimes that helps to land the planes closer to the numbers....but if its just this 727, and its NOT crashing or going long or doing pass overs, then I wouldnt go through too much trouble.

Many people create special versions of these planes for AI use only, and then tweak the AI flight dynamics to get them to land/take off more realistically. I've used the default 737 as a starting point and have been able to get my AI propliners to land and take off reasonably realistically (not perfect yet, though).Hope this helps,-- Tom GibsonAI L188 Electra now available!California Classic Propliners: http://www.calclassic.com/Cal Classic Alco Page: http://www.calclassic.com/alco/Freeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.com/ San Diego Model RR Museum: http://www.sdmodelrailroadm.com/Drop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

Good suggestion I'll give it a try. Do you have any particular dynamics you tweak to adjust where they touchdown.I don't usually fly the planes that I use for A/I. This should also help with the Project AI planes as well. I notice their B757's won't land at DCA, LGA and SNA.I know SNA is a tough one but I've flown in and out of there on UA 757's. It's a thrill.Rich
