September 25, 200223 yr Hi I was wondering in the real world which pilot performs the outside inspection of the 767 aircraft? Does the F/O perform the outside check and the captain performs the scan check in the cockpit or is it reversed? Or it is airline specific? If so which way does an airline like AA do it? Thank You. :-)
September 25, 200223 yr HiI felt I just had to answer your question, and what prompted me was an ex ATC controller after dinner speaker tape that I listened to of which I have a copy some where and must find some time. The bottom line is either of them can do the job but picture the scene its hissing down and freezing cold and your the captain, who's the most likely one to get the job? on the other hand its a beautiful evening the cockpit is horrendously hot who gets the job this time round? rest assured they can both do the job and I should imagine its shared equally in most cases. September 25, 200223 yr Yeah exactly. With BA either does it, no set schedule, whoever can be assed to do it basically .
September 25, 200223 yr With American it seems like i have only seen the FO doing the walk around checks.http://events8.tripod.com/pilot_tag.JPG
September 25, 200223 yr It is usually the pilot not flying who performs the walkaround. That could be the Captain or First Officer.Best Regards,
September 26, 200223 yr In Qantas its the Captain who does it. Unless a Second Officer is carried in which case they do it.The F/O never does it.
September 27, 200223 yr HPSOV, the F/O gets to do all the paperwork eh? :)At Transavia, everything is split down the middle, from the preflight to the engine start to the taxiing, flying, landing, shutdown. Captain does it one way, F/O does it the other way.
September 27, 200223 yr Commercial Member No one will admit it, but there is a very easy answer:If the sun is shining, its nice warm outside, the Captain does it.If its raining, or cold, the Captain asks the F/O to do it:-) Mark Foti Author of aviaworx - https://www.aviaworx.com
