OT - Geforce Driver issues

To all Geforce drivers out there!I have bought a GF4 MX 440 (I know, should have taken the TI4400), and I just can't get FS2002 to run properly. The problem is with anti aliasing. If it is not on, then smoke effects become dark and ugly rectangles. Also, light effects are not rendered properly. Then, if I turn on AA, I either lose my menu-bar or the panel goes pink after a while. I tried every AA setting, but nothing helped. The only way I can get it to work is in window mode, but I don't like it as it is slow. (not only FPS wise, but also menu wise)I know I am not the only one suffering from this, so it can't be a hardware issue. I've tried half a dozen drivers (even reinstalled Windows 2000) but that didn't help either. I am now running the latest beta driver from Nvidia, the 40.71.Is there any solution to this? Thanks a lot!!Regards,Mark

Not sure? How is window mode slow Menu wise??? It's the exact opposite for me?

Hmm, well I just got a Ti4200 128MB card. Make sure you run in 32 bit mode, also select force antialiasing in your tweaker, don't let fs select it. Also, I believe that the 40.41 drivers may help to get your menu-bar. Do you have WinXP? If so the new service pack has something to do with it I think.Greg_________________________ "Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return"-Leonardo Da Vinci

Hi Greg,I'm using Windows 2000 with the newest service pack (SP3).I tried 32 bit already, and all AA settings in the Display's property box. Nothing helped. Can you confirm that you are not having any problems with the Ti4200?Thanks,Mark

I've been having the same issues with my gforce 3 since I got fs02..... I have had no luck in trying to fix the problem.

My two pennies worth. The marketing nomenclature notwithstanding, a GeForce 4 MX is simply a souped up GeForce 2 card. You would have been better off getting a GeForce 3 card if you didn't want the expense of a GeForce 4.I'm convinced that the latest drivers are optimized only for the newest cards; in my experience older cards do not perform any better with the newest drivers. My rule of thumb is to go no more than three driver releases higher than the drivers that come in the box. I'm still using the 29.40 WHQL-certified drivers... I have a GeForce 3 and I doubt I'd see any gain in using more recent drivers.

"You would have been better off getting a GeForce 3 card if you didn't want the expense of a GeForce 4"Thats what I think aswell. A GF3 TI200 would have been better. I am also thinking of selling my card and get the Ti 4200, but only if I can be certain that I will not have any problems with FS2002.About the drivers, I don't know. I don't use benchmarks. I just want a stable system that doesn't have the above mentioned glitches. As I previously said, I tried many drivers, the one supplied with the card (an ancient one), then 5 more versions. How is your GF3 behaving? Can you fly in fullscreen mode without any probs?Regards,Mark

My G3 is performing very well although with some of the screenshots I see I'm tempted to go get a GeForce 4.Can't you simply return your card? nVidia is releasing an entirely new line of video cards just in time for the holiday season so G4s will be dirt cheap in a few weeks. My card works very well....here are two screenshots I took recently about my new obsession with AI aircraft... :-)The KEWR hub of my favorite airline.

Wow not bad! Is your simulation smooth though?I doubt the shop will take the card back. It's not broken and it is behaving as all GF4 MX440's behave...unfortunately :-)I'll just try to sell the card myself. It's a pity, but I'll get over it :-)On a completey other topic, is someone interested in a GF4 MX440 that has suddenly come up for sale? :-wink2

Yes, FS2002 runs very smoothly. I have my framerates locked at 25 fps and although I run below that, especially with third-party airports and tons of AI, I have never had any major performance problems.I use Riva Tuner as a tweaker to wring some additional performance out of my card. I suggest you try that, it may help you.

Marcom,Hmm, have no idea about 2000 and SP3, I think I saw that that combo had problems at some forum, can't remember it now. And no problems yet, other than slightly poorer performance than I'd thought, and having a bear of a time upgrading drivers.Greg_________________________ "Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return"-Leonardo Da Vinci
