Multiple Monitor Question- For those running Windows98

Featured Replies

Hello Have searched the posts concerning Multiple Monitor, PIC users, and Can't seem to get an answer to a specific question. To Configure Multiple Monitors, Does the Existing AGP card that is already the Primary Monitor Have to have multiple montor support before adding the PCI card for the secondary monitor.. My Bios is set for AGP as the primary video display..I've seen post where a guy was running 5 monitors with PIC and he was running 1 AGP and 2 Matrix g450 PCI cards, each with Dual Monitor Support. For a total of 5 monitors. However, he was not specific as to the Ability of the AGP card to support multiple monitors. Maybe the person who ran the post will see this post and respond or hopefully one of you guys could provide the answer from personal experience. Thanks for any AdviceGary W. NorrisAAL314

Gary,As far as I know the AGP card can be a single head one (I did this on Win ME, which is on this part not different from WIN 98). Buy a cheap PCI card and try it out, it's worth whileKind regards,Stephan Haas

I'm running an MSI G4Ti4600 dual head AGP with an additional 3 Tseng ET6100 PCI cards under Win98SE. Works fine. It doesn't matter if the AGP card is dual head or not. I just tried a Matrox 450 PCI as a secondary card, no joy.As soon as I moved any window to the secondary monitor the PC would lock solid. I gave up after a couple of hours and 58764547 different driver versions, check boxes, different pci slots, burning of incence, sacrificing of virgins etc..... Back to my old trusted ET6100 cards.Regards, Andreas

Strange, I've had a Leadtek Winfast 250 (TI4400) working together with a Matrox 450 dualhead, no problems. Must be something specific to the model.Kind regards,Stephan Haas

Does anyone know what the frame-rate hit is (if at all) of having an additional graphics card installed, and the computations required in the computer to give 2 simultaneous graphics outputs? Thanks,Bruce.

Thanks Andreas, Steven, and the rest of you guys that responded, your input has been very helpful.. I'm also running Windows ME , I know it's the same procedure for setup as 98, at least according to the Microsoft website.. They are just never specific as to the tiny details that can make or break an installation.. I've searched the web ( Various Multi-Monitor support sites ) and the Tseng card and Also The Matrox G450 dual head card seem to be the most popu;ar, however their are more..Now its time to flip the coin I guess. Thanks againGary W.
