October 30, 200223 yr After upgrading my o/s from win98 to win 2000pro, (I needed it as I work out of my house), I experienced strange problems with PIC. First, I reinstalles FS2K, and PIC with the 1.1 patch. The following 'bugs' are now evident:1. The auto throttle does not work. If I set a figure in the speed window, the speed mode races the engines to dangerous overspeeds at any point in the flight. I have to manually control the airspeed with my joystick.2. As soon as I pick the 767 in the aircraft menu, the menu bar becomes inoperable. Pressing 'alt' can freeze the screen for a few seconds. I hade to disable 'hide menu bar' for it to be usable. This does not happen with other a/c.3. I tried several times to have the PIC 767 at EGLL as the default startup flight, but on loading FS2K, it reverts to the Meigs Cessna.4. Other phenomena are like the a/c will lose the LNAV mode in mudflight and go drifting off.In comparison,I have the PSS B777 installed with no problems.I wonder if the new o/s is the culprit of all these bugs.Eytan Ornstein
October 30, 200223 yr See my comments below:>1. The auto throttle does not work. If I set a figure in the >speed window, the speed mode races the engines to dangerous >overspeeds at any point in the flight. I have to manually >control the airspeed with my joystick. Do you have EEC enabled on the center pedestal? If you do have these turned on, you might be fighting joystick noise (although I haven't seen reports of this for quite some time) - try downloading a utility called CTFJ 3.0 and see if that helps. You might also try to calibrate the joystick (specifically, the throttle axis) using FSUIPC.>2. As soon as I pick the 767 in the aircraft menu, the menu >bar becomes inoperable. Pressing 'alt' can freeze the screen >for a few seconds. I hade to disable 'hide menu bar' for it >to be usable. This does not happen with other a/c. Alas, this is a known Windows 2000/FS2K issue. You have to unhide the menu unfortunately. This problem does not exist when running under FS2002.>3. I tried several times to have the PIC 767 at EGLL as the >default startup flight, but on loading FS2K, it reverts to >the Meigs Cessna. Not sure what to tell you here. I'm not aware of anyone experiencing anything like this in the past. >4. Other phenomena are like the a/c will lose the LNAV mode >in mudflight and go drifting off. I don't recall anything like this ever happening, but I think if you address #1, #4 will go away as well. Make sure you have the latest FSUIPC (2.92) installed as well. Barring this, I would be suspect that your PIC installation is bunk and that you somehow ended up with a bad set of files.
October 30, 200223 yr PS. Keep in mind that the original release and the 1.1 patch were never designed for Windows 2000. People *have* gotten this configuration to work, but they had to live with a handful of "quirks". Just be aware that you are now running in a completely untested operating environment.Version 1.2, however, which is the patch upgrade for FS2002, included compatibility fixes for Windows 2000 and addresses many of the issues you mentioned (aside from the one or two I've never seen before in any release of PIC).
October 30, 200223 yr My recommendation would be to go out and grab yourself a copy of FS2k2. It can be found fairly cheap these days, and is quite a bit better than FS2k2 (not to mention that PIC767 works perfectly in it.)Ryan-Flightpro08 :-cool VATSIM Pilot/ControllerZLA ARTCC Senior Controller (C-3)SAN TRACON Lead [link:www.taxiwaysigns.com|Taxiwaysigns.com] Scenery Designer-----------------------------My "Home Made" System Specs:Intel Pentium 4 2.2GHz ProcessorTurbo Gamer ATX Mid-Tower with 420W Power SupplyEPoX 4G4A Motherboard with Intel 845G ChipsetVisiontek XTASY GeForce4 128MB Ti4600 (Det 41.03 Drivers)512MB PC2100 DDR RAM40GB Matrox 7200RPM Hard DriveWindows XP Home Edition SP1*No CPU or GPU Overclocking*3dMark2001SE Score: 11298-----------------------------Click [link:ftp.avsim.com/library/esearch.php?DLID=&Name=&FileName=&Author=Ryan+Fretwell&CatID=Root]Here to Download my New American Eagle POSKY CRJ-200!
October 31, 200223 yr Author Figures. You get a new o/s, and the old sim doesn't match its parameters.I'll try getting the latest FSUIPC, though I wasn't aware it coulddeal with joystick issues.Or else- I'll grt FS2K2- I bet that'll run better with win2000 anyways.Eytan
October 31, 200223 yr Author .> It can be found fairly cheap these days, <. Around where I live , It costs close to 75 bucks, the PRO edition. Where can I get a better deal?Eytan
October 31, 200223 yr It's not the most intuitive joystick calibration utility in the world but it's really precise and does alot to help this "joystick noise" problem - which for whatever reasons was the bane of PIC and PSS's 747/777 under FS2000. I haven't seen any issues of the sort since having gone to FS2002. I think they manage joystick input differently.J
October 31, 200223 yr Author CTFJ 3.0? -What is it, what does it do for PIC, and where do I get it?Thanx Eytan
October 31, 200223 yr This place sells pro for about $50.http://www.buypcsoft.com/product.asp?ProductID=1287I have no experience with this particular vendor, so 'caveat emptor' :) You might find better deals online - I found this after about 3 minutes of searching.
