GTOW and Flaps

Featured Replies

As I fly mostly within Europe, I hardly ever have more fuel loaded then 100,000 LBS, so usually take off with Flaps 15.Above wich GTOW should I start using flaps 5 ???

We just had this talk some posts back. In the real world flaps 5 is almost always used and for one or two airlines flaps 15. The particular airlines SOP is what determines this. One pilot here said that in 3 years of flying the 767 he had seen only one 15 flap takeoff. Now for this sim I really don't think it makes all that big of a deal. If your are heavy and have a long runway without anything to worry about while you are climbing out go for it. Also flaps 5 in the real world will give you a better preformace climb than at 15 flaps. I don't know if this is also true for PIC but I doubt it.Best Wishes,Randy Smith

Thanks Randy, I'll look up the post.

>Also flaps 5 in the real world will give you a better performance climb than at 15 flaps. I don't know if this is also true for PIC but I doubt it.So flap drag is not modelled in PIC, Randy? If it is, then it should be true. Aircraft acceleration is quicker with less drag, so the aircraft should reach higher speeds faster. Higher speeds equals better climb rates. It would be a poor sim if it didn't model these basic aerodynamic principles ;-)Cheers.Ian.

Well I stand corrected sir. I should have have left it as "I don't know if the preformance climb as regards to flaps 15 or 5 on takeoff is modled after the real 767's preformance climb rate." Glad to know it does!Best Wishes,Randy Smith
