November 18, 200223 yr is there anyway to put the TCAS/VSI gauge that Oleksiy Frolov uses in his dash 8 panel and merge it and replace the VSI gauge into the 767 PIC panel?
November 18, 200223 yr I dunno: try it? :)It likely will not work since most the PIC gauges will not operate in the absence of others (its part of an anti-piracy thing). I don't know if the VSI is one of them, but I would be surprised if you had much latitude w/ gauge swapping.Let us know if it worked!J
November 18, 200223 yr If PIC won't operate without its VSI gauge, you could always place it off screen. I doubt this will be an issue. More likely is the case that the Dash8 VSI depends on other gauges, almost certainly the center panel transponder, but who knows what else.Hmm...I might try my hand at programming a VSI with TCAS for PIC. That is if I can get enough information out of the various FS panel SDKs. Anyone have any documentation about how VSI TCAS gauges work/how they look? These do exist in some 767s, right?Lee Hetherington (KBED)
November 18, 200223 yr If you'd like a second pair of eyeballs on any code or otherwise, I am more than willing to pitch in.All the best :-waveLev (EKCH)
November 18, 200223 yr Lee,I have some knowledge, both from seeing the gauge on the 757 (on the ground in test mode), and from a Honeywell PDF file detailing the operations of TCAS from a pilot's point of view.Their are various options for the TCAS range display, the one I have seen is permanently at 6nm. This gives TA, and the area within the small dotted circle (2nm) gives RA.I have also designed both the background bmp and the VSI needle bmp - to resemble the Honeywell IVA81D IVSI display gauge. At the moment I am just trying to get it to display in FS as a VSI - not integrated into PIC, and not with TCAS.I have converted an image of my gauge to greyscale to show it.Mark
November 18, 200223 yr Wow, you're way ahead of me there! Need any help? If so, you can drop me an email through my forum profile. In the mean time, I'll ignore bitmap issues and figure out if I can actually get the TCAS info from FSUIPC and draw it into an empty display.Getting vertical speed should be pretty straightforward since that is a parameter the SDK provides, and the SDK provides for the non-linear rotation of the needle given vertical speed.Lee Hetherington (KBED)
November 18, 200223 yr Lee,Will send you an email later on tonight.Have used XML code for the gauge, but at the moment I can't get it to display within FS.Once I get it displayed in FS, I will then make it a seperate window in PIC and compare how it operates in relation to the PIC VSI.Mark
November 18, 200223 yr ok you guys....stop teasing me with this....when it's ready, just wrap it up and ship it to PIC-heads anonymous for a nice Christmas gift.Looks good so far!If you need a guinea pig, let me know.Rob.
November 18, 200223 yr Rob,It took me about 2 hours of work this afternoon to draw the BMP.The version on my HD is in full technicolour (Boeing Brown).Don't worry about being a guinea pig - if we start to make some progress, then I can see some Sunday afternoon Vatsim Events being required.Mark
November 19, 200223 yr Hey... I know next to nothing about gauge design, but I was wondering... Couldn't somebody just create a transparent gauge that would be placed on top of the EHSI??? Just curious. It seems pretty intuitive, but I'm guessing that idea has already been considered...Phil Geddes
November 19, 200223 yr Phil, don't know the feasability of that. A Number of variables would then come into play - Setting the range to match that on the EHSI.Making sure the Gauge only displayed in MAP mode.Making sure that areas like the Magenta Line were not getting obscured. What myself and Lee are looking at is a stand alone IVSI TCAS gauge based on the Honeywell IVA-81D display that is currently fitted to many 757 & 767 aircraft.Mark

November 19, 200223 yr Is it possible to include aural warnings with a TCAS gauge in FS2002? Just wondering... I noticed, for example, that Dreamfleet's 737 doesn't have aural warnings. Also, I'm guessing it's not possible to have the autopilot intervene incase of RA/TA... Just curious. Thanks!Regards,Phil Geddes
November 20, 200223 yr I'm sure aural warnings will be possible.I've managed to familiarize myself with gauge programming including such "vector graphics" so this TCAS project is looking very, very doable. I think we'll start with TA only, but I look forward to trying to implement RA along the VSI scale as well.I have no idea how long this will take, but hopefully I'll have some basic TCAS blips moving around within a few days.Lee Hetherington (KBED)
November 20, 200223 yr Lee & MarkIt's great to see you two teaming up on this project. Let me know if you need someone to help with some burn in time when you get a week or two down the road.
