Engine sounds decrease in volume as you climb.. can I

Featured Replies

HiAfter a break from fs2002, i,ve just reinstalled fs2002 and PIC .Still blows me away how nice this aircraft fly's.Of all the addons available I still think PIC is way ahead regarding aircraft sounds, especially in reproducing the effect of only hearing the wind noise at cruise, with little or no engine sounds. After checking out some settings it seems the Engine sounds decrease in volume as you climb, and it seems to be linked to OAT??.I wondering how this is done and could we reproduce this effect in other aircraft?.Great to be back flying this work of art.All the bestJohn

i think the engine sound didn't decreased, actually the wind sound increased while you getting faster after take off~

> After checking out some settings it seems the Engine sounds decrease in volume as you climb, and it seems to be linked to OAT??.This makes sense. Perhaps PIC's designers have modelled a reduction in engine sound due to the reduction in air density as the aircraft climbs (I'm sure some of us have heard that famous movie intro: "In space, no one can hear you scream") :-hahI'm also thinking that there would be some serious doppler shifts going on at high mach numbers. The frequencies generated by the engines would be shifting towards the lower end of the sound spectrum. Perhaps this would also make the engines less audible?Cheers.Ian.

Just tried the following.I turned off all the sound options leaving only the engine sounds.Engines to 96% N1 after take off the engine were " Growling" away nicelyCrossing 10,000 ft the engine noise is a LOT quiterAt 25,000FT still on 96% N1 They are almost inaudable.Try it and see if you get the same effect.Does anyone know how this is achieved?, and could we reproduce this on other jets?.I think PIC are unique in using this great effect.Sounds are 50% of the illusion. All the bestJohn

Remember too, that thrust decreases with altitude, due to lower levels of oxygen. That may be what you are hearing?I agree- PIC is the best.Bruce.
