November 24, 200223 yr Hi all, I got a question on landings. Whenever you use real weather without the winds aloft box checked I can land fine. Whenever winds aloft is checked or when I am on VATSim and there is a cross wind my plane comes in crooked. Ive tried to compensate by dropping a wing and using the rudder to no availal. So whats the proper precedure to straight out the airplane so you can land straight in wind. Do you give one of the engines more power than the other one? What exactly do you do to get the plane straight? Thanks for any info....Paul - UAL335
November 24, 200223 yr First, you need to get back rudder authority by disabling both L and R Yaw Dampers from the overhead panel. Most heavy pilots who have commented on this subject seem to discourage side slipping the aircraft on final because of the increased risk of a wing or engine strike. Fly the approach straight down the middle, with a crab angle down the centerline. At about 10-20' or so, retard the throttles to idle and "kick" the nose with the rudder just as the ground effect lift is starting to wane and the aircraft starts to settle onto the runway. This is the technique I use and have had quite a bit of success with it.J
November 24, 200223 yr But regarding the crosswind. Is that a FS weather problem or landing in a crosswind everyday is a real deal?
November 25, 200223 yr hi,i know at schiphol amsterdam they do land with crosswinds now and then, and it should not be to much a problem if the crosswind stays within the aircraft
November 26, 200223 yr Aircraft have to land in crosswinds most of the time, Not every airport has 360 runways at 1 degree offsets :( Trent Hopkinson, 2015 Crewmember of www.mangrove.com.au WorldFlight sim Youtube channel www.youtube.com/user/musicalaviator
November 26, 200223 yr Now why don't we just make a continuous-circular pavement of 1 mile in diameter, so you could just land anyway on the pavement like a 360 degrees runway? :)
