December 7, 200223 yr Ok I read something about turbulance .02 ( no idea where )But what other tweaks should be made to the fs2002.ini and fsuipc to smooth operation?Richard GreenVATUSA4Events and VA Director
December 7, 200223 yr Richard,The turbulance thing is in the FS2002.CFG file. Look for the following section and change the TurbulanceScale as shown.(Weather)WindshieldPrecipitationEffects=1MinGustTime=10MaxGustTime=500MinGustRampSpeed=1MaxGustRampSpeed=200MinVarTime=5MaxVarTime=50MinVarRampSpeed=1MaxVarRampSpeed=75TurbulenceScale=0.200000 DefaultVisibility=0WeatherServerAddress=fs2k.zone.comWeatherServerPort=80ADVANCED_WEATHER=0LOADWEATHER=1MAX_UNLIMITED_VIS=128747DownloadWindsAloft=0There are a bunch of other things, particularly in FSUIPC (get the latest version 2.93), that help. I am with Denver Center right now and am about to get the handoff at Tuba City to LAX so I cant run a series of screen shots right now. I will check back here tomorrow and add some more stuff if no one has jumped in and added anything by then. Also, say your system speed, ram, and operating system. That will help as to how far you may need to go. OK, Denver is calling again.
December 7, 200223 yr Mike,What impact are these setting supposed to have? I thought any turbulence effect in FS was just a bunch of shaky dials. Do these inputs create a more realistic aerodynamic effect on the aircraft?Regards,WS
December 8, 200223 yr The "shaky dials" (airspeed indicators) is exactly what that change is aimed at. It settles down that effect.
December 8, 200223 yr OK, you have twice of everything I have for a system. I will grab your email address off VATSIM and email you some screenshots of my FSUIPC settings. I will tell you though that your system should run fine with most of the default FSUIPC settings. The FS display settings are what really eat your lunch on some systems. For instance, I fly with autogen completely turned off and scenery complexity one notch below full when in the PIC. The rest of the sliders are about in the middle. With your system, you should be able to run fine with all of those a notch or so higher. I forget how much difference it makes but I also have aircraft shadows unchecked. Over on the hardware tab, keep your lights slider maxed but all the other settings can be system specific. Try unchecking things one at a time and check the effect, do it on the ground though so you can see the display effect they have. You may not want to improve frame rates at the expense of texture quality. And I quoted the wrong FSUIPC version in my first post. The latest version is 2.94.Happy landings!
December 8, 200223 yr I wonder what effect this will have if any with Active SKY? Randy Randy J Smith
December 8, 200223 yr I really smooth out barometric and wind direction/speed changes with FSUIPC. Otherwise, when you cross a geographic boundary you may be hit with a huge pressure altitude change and/or huge wind shear.I think I have mine about 5s/mb and 5s/deg-or-kt.Lee Hetherington (KBED)
December 8, 200223 yr Dont know but I am sticking with FSMeteo till all the review come in. And even then I will be slow to make the move.
